Many of them try any tactic to make you look at their ads, the worst is the pop-under ad which opens a whole new window in the background and it starts making all kinds of noise. Or the bugged flash ads that crash IE (a problem since Flash 9 came out). Haven't had that one here but it's common on the news sites such as wreg.com & cnn.com

Yeah, these are really hard to detect unless you reverse compile flash and check for dodgy code like this in the ads. Which unfortunately we have little control over (except if we run no flash at all). It used to be a problem but I don't think we really get these ads anymore.

shhh, thats a secret little thanks for now.

Oh and i'm going to look into that "interstitial ad" it shouldn't be running

Ad with the audio playing automatically

Dr Pepper Ultimate Gaming House.

An ad with the audio loading (taking transfer/bandwidth) & playing automatically without any interaction from the user's side.

how about the nexus phone advert up for a ban as it blocks most of the page needlessly. don't know how to add a screen shot sorry.

Jun 10 2011, 11:36am Anchor

Get rid of the nexus s advert. It takes up a large portion of the screen but has no button to close it, not to mention it pops up on EVERY. DAMN. PAGE!

Jun 10 2011, 12:02pm Anchor

Agreed, the nexus s advert is very annoying and it makes every little task (like clicking play on a video) harder.

What about the ad I'm getting where it takes up all of the screen and you can't do anything on the sides? Can't even clear your updates or anything. Ridiclous

Petemyster, you mean the one that 5 posts before you were also complaining about? :P

Jun 10 2011, 1:52pm Anchor

There was no screenshot so I assumed the post would be ignored. I also wanted to quote your post so I can reply to it, but currently the Nexus adver is completely covering all those buttons :p

Jun 10 2011, 9:50pm Anchor

in the same boat as the poster above me, I would quote his name but i cant actually see it due to the ad being in the way! :P

What about the religious ads? I just saw one for Mormons. Is this kinda stuff gonna start flooding in with scientology and christianity next?

Religious ads are inappropriate and shouldn't be allowed. ModDB should be religiously agnostic.

I'm still getting the fucking Nexus ad.

I don't choose the ads, but I can request they be taken down in most situations. If it becomes a problem i'll escalate as we are agnostic here. Nexus ad shouldn't be overlapping content anymore.

lol funny... Not that I am getting this add, but it did make me think of the karma feature... Wouldn't it be nifty to have a karma feature in threads, if others are experiencing the same issues or have the same opinions on the subject to just vote karma to that post? just a thought. (probably also not the first person to bring this up)

When I next get it, I'll have a look at the page source and see if I can find out.

Aug 26 2011, 3:53am Anchor

I constantly get this ad, it also plays some loud sound effects. Even after the ad shrinks back into its little box, that dang green stuff turns the area of the page it touched into a link to their facebook page.

Aug 28 2011, 8:42pm Anchor

I also get that same stupid add with green slime near everyday. It blocks all links and sends ya to face book.Idiotic.Also locks up the browser sometimes.Cant even click the close button for it as it blocks the links first before showing the x.Pain in the ass shutting off flash to come here
