Does this one count? It's a pain to deal with since you sometimes end up hitting it again when you try and close it.

Does it expand with no action taken?

Yeah it just pops open when its done loading and every time you scroll over it. Really annoying as you have to go down to the corner and click close and sometimes you accidentally scroll over it again causing it to pop back open.;(

I've yet to have one the requires me to roll over to expand: they all do it on their own.

Yeah i know it sux but thats classes as user activated as you hovered over the ad, so its legal :(

If we clicked on the ads that would be fair...its completely bogus though cause they get tripped while just navigating the site. More likely to drive me away from the product then to it. :S

Thats the advertisers issue not ours, if their product sells or not moddb still gets paid and thats what gives your ur uncapped, downloads, videos... etc
Yep there annoying, so are full screen ads (that we dont use or have), regardless this thread is for the ads that break our rules, nothing can be done about the ones that don't till desura is fully released.

Screen shot of the offending advert please.

so far, all of the screenshots posted recently are auto-popups.

Apr 19 2010 Anchor

They do auto-popup, that's why the one above was such a pain because you got to close it and then have a high chance to hit it again. It's not just an annoying ad it affects how I have to travel around this site.

I also came about this one right after posting...it opened up after the page loaded with my mouse no where near it.

To be honest, the ads have gotten bad enough that I don't really ever browse the site anymore, I only check updates now.

Sorry if I miss worded that but what I meant is this: When the page loads the AD opens up (meaning no action from me other then opening up the mod db page) next when I go to close it the ad closes but I sometimes accidentally move my mouse over it causing me to open it again :P (meaning I interacted with it the second time)

That happens to me too. All of the ones that you "have to scroll over to activate" automatically pop up when the page loads :gordon:

And i just got tag teamed by these two:

Hey hey, a whole thread dedicated to this now.

Is there a rational explanation as to why you have not switched ad providers?

I'm not even gonna bother posting screens anymore...happens so often now, I'll spend half my time doing it. ;)

uh idk where to put this but the vids have been giving me issues lately when playing the ironman2 video game ad it makes mozilla freeze and i gotta restart. so don't know if thats a issue with me or with the vid player itself

May 20 2010 Anchor

It does the same for me, it freezes 8 seconds into the video.

I currently have a horrific one that opens up this webpage;
Celebgossipnet.com

What's worse, is that it is neither of the two adverts that appear in the normal spaces - this popup is occuring in addition to the normal adverts, so I can't screencap anything.

Jun 5 2010 Anchor

I haven't gotten any ads that expand out onto the webpage in a long time. Good job, Moddb!

Ad-block for Firefox and you'll be a happy camper!

I do prefer to see the ad's, though. Occasionally a few will come up that i'm interested in.

This is one crappy ad supplier. Do they pay better for allowing more intrusive ads? If not... Why not switch suppliers?
