Putting in DDR3 RAM with AM2 CPU ? (Forums : Tech Support : Putting in DDR3 RAM with AM2 CPU ? ) Locked

So I am thinking of upgrading my ancient machine with 8GB DDR3 1600mhz RAM (2x4GB modules) , I had 2 GB of DDR2 before..
There are 4 slots for RAM on my MOBO, 2 for DDR3 and 2 for DDR2
Things however get messy here.. I have a AM2 CPU (AMD 64x2 6000+) The MOBO supports AM3+ too. And the specs for the Motherboard say that DDR3 memory is supported when an AM3/AM3+ CPU is present..
Even if the DDR3 is working at the speeds of DDR2 Im fine with that, after all those are 8GB AND DDR3 is cheaper than DDR2 anyway..
The question is : Will the new memory simply be slower or not working at all?
Motherboard model : ASRock N68C-GS FX AM3+ NVIDIA GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Thanks in advance!
