So, I asked about this feature a while ago in a separate post. I learned it's not possible to preview/work on your mod page before submitting it for authorization. You guys really need this feature. I'm not sure why you don't have it, but consider it. I did attempt to do it your guys way, with trying to get it looking good within 3 days and all, but even that wasn't possible. I set the time aside, got together a lot of different art pieces I'd been working on, and created my mod page. I put in the most complete of the headers I'd been working on (though not the one I wanted to use), and was just testing out too see how I'd have to cut my image and at what dimensions to get a picture extension below the title bar. But, there was a big red block notice, telling me that the mod was awaiting authorization, and beneath that it seemed that the lower half of my image had a white margin. I wasn't sure if the margin would go away when the warning block was removed, so I contacted an admin and simply asked if there was a way to preview the page without the "waiting for auth" notice. Within a couple hours I got a reply that said "looked fine so I went ahead and authorized it." lol, so like, on day one of three--me thinking at least that I'd have 3 days to work on my page--with only 4 of 80 screenshots uploaded, and the crappy header image, my mod page is live? I did some fast work to slap some text onto the header image, and upon reinserting it discovered the white margin was back. Seems when the admin authorized my page he went ahead and corrected my image code for me. I did eventually get the margin removed, it's just lame that the page wasn't even remotely close to how I wanted it to look when it went live--let alone none of the writing done. I think this is a great site, but it's pretty silly that you have to do the first draft of your mod page live. Please consider allowing members to create a mod page without having to immediately submit it for authorization. Edited by: Munderbunny |

Believe me when I say this, 90% of mod/games that apply to have a profile here get rejected. Having said that the profiles here on ModDB are always changing so having a preview option is really null and void at this point in time, as chances are they will change the design of the profile within a week. There is nothing wrong with working on a profile after it has been authorised if anything it removes the 3 day limitations imposed by staff to have content ready for inspection. If you do need help with presenting your profile in a neat and unique manner all you need to do is contact staff to help you out, we know the site better then anyone else (considering we made it, it makes sense). The way the site is setup right now unless you start to advertise the profile within ModDB or other sites on the web you wont notice much of an impact, so you should be using this time to work on how your profile looks. --

Well, I wanted an opportunity to play with different options without causing crazy profile anomalies that people will be seeing (and there was no way for me to keep my mod under wraps, as there were people already checking my profile. Maybe it's just me, and not the process; I'm used to working on creative projects in draft and getting it to a point I'm happy with before presenting it. But, it's not that big a deal in the end; I'm not like crying myself to sleep over it, and I don't feel like I've been wronged or anything--just letting you know I didn't find the process to be super-awesome. I'm not sure what the reasoning is behind denying members from having the option to work on their page first, but it does seem like a small thing that would make the whole thing a little easier. And thanks for the offer of help; I will definitely be taking you up on it. |

It's not supposed to be super awesome, we went over this in your last thread, submit your mod when your ready to do so, make all the alterations you need to, im sure there will be like at most 1 person on the profile as soon as its authed, not 20,000 nor will they look down or shout at you for correcting and playing with it. As for the auth, you can still edit your mod while waiting for it to be authed, infact you can see your mod while its not authed, just others cant. |

I fully understand that you guys don't think it's a big deal for people to arrive at a mod page and find it in disarray or whatever. I truly do get now that it's just me. While I'm certainly not a professional, I hope you'll forgive me for approaching all of this with an unnecessary attempt at professionalism. Besides, as no one's getting paid for their mod, it doesn't really matter who sees what in what state. I guess I feel a bit silly now for thinking stuff like that was important. I'll try to loosen up, and keep my neurosis out of your feedback forums. |
