Numerous Hammer Editor Compile Errors | Locked | |

You'll have to forgive me if this has been posted before; I've already tried searching to see if this topic has been posted before, plus I've been out of the loop since '04. I installed a fresh build of Source SDK on Steam yesterday and went headfirst into some tutorials on YouTube to re-familiarize myself. I'm working on a couple of maps on Half-Life 2 but almost every time I attempt to compile (Run Map) the hl2.exe loads and then kicks me to the main menu. Once I try entering into the console something like "Map My Map" I get the error message "No such map 'maps/my.bsp'". I am saving them to the default directory, by the way. I had some luck last night after reinstalling Source SDK and making a rudimentary map when it actually let me compile and run it but now I get the error message "Out of memory loading solid" when I so much as open it. I've done some digging and found out this means the map is possibly too large, although frankly I doubt it. Is this a common problem with Hammer Editor on Steam? Should I cut my losses and download the vanilla version of Hammer Editor 3.5? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

The error pops up when I open the map in Hammer Editor and then closes for me, so I can't get to the message log when it compiles. That isn't the main issue though. I'm more concerned by the fact that when I attempt to run any map (Except for the above example) it just boots me to the main menu. Thanks for the advice though. Edit: Right, I made another simple map and compiled it and now it runs for me (Just a room and info_player_start). Bizarre. I think the reason why I'm having trouble might have something to do with the fact that in all of the maps that wouldn't run I made a skybox outside of the room where info_player_start is located and some simple buildings. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong? I've attached a picture if this helps at all

You will never believe how stupid I feel right now... I was being booted to the Menu when I tried to run the map because I was naming my maps with spaces and not using "_". Beginner error...like I said I have been out of the loop for some time.
I saved over it a while back while I was frantically trying to get my maps to run. I'm not really bothered now that the major problem has been sorted out- plus it'll be easy to replicate. I appreciate you guys trying to help (And I cannot stress how dumb I feel now). Mods, please delete this thread. Edited by: FunkMasterFlex |
