Ok before anyone gets mad and jumps all over me I am not very tech savvy therefore don't know the extent of work as to what I would like to ask, with that out of the way I shall ask my question.

I have an idea for a mod for one of my all time favorite games, lord of the rings battle for middle earth 2 rise of the witch king. As stated above though I'm not very tech savvy so I was thinking of reaching out to find someone instead, my only curiosity is do modders usually get paid to mod? Would I have to pay them to mod, or just simply find someone willing to work on it? Because if I have to pay I could wait and save a bit before finding someone, but if not I could start looking?

Creating mods is usually a hobby for everyone. Meaning, there is no money involved. However, this also means that most people working on mods do not have much experience in their fields yet. There are professionals in the modding scene as well, but they are very rare and usually don't have the time to help out for free. But it's definitely not impossible to find people like that, either. You should get rid off the idea that you are going to create a cool mod like the ones you maybe played with your friends recently, because even small modding ideas usually turn into quite complex projects, which are really hard to plan and schedule for inexperienced project managers. It's not my goal to discourage you, but to give you the little tip to start extremely small. Read guides on these topics, there are quite a few out there.

Other than that, go ahead and look for people to start with. I always say that it is more important to gain practical experience as a beginner than to have everything figured out before you even start. Use the recruiting section here on ModDB to post a thread. Before you do this, I would advise you to look through other threads though and see how they're doing it. And keep in mind, if you do not offer any money, finding people, who are willing to help you out is pretty much based on luck even if your job ad is very well done. So, don't be demotivated, if you do not get any replies for a couple weeks. You just might get 2 or 3 people reaching out to you in week 3. Happens a lot of times.

Best wishes,

Kjell
