Right so im not a moddeler, but thinking of getting into it now coz its hard to find someone to model you know? So with this dilema i came to a conclusion that could be very usefull =] Ive looked through the addons section and havent realy found much usable models, infact i found 2, the crossbow and another carbine weapon for UE3, anyhow, since theres alot of modelers here, why not donate some low poly models of weapons, characters, and props? its hard enough finding a modeler for ur mod, especialy if they dont quite like your project, but having the library of pre-created low poly models for temporary substitutes could be very usefull since the majority of the visual experiance of a game is practically all 3D models nowadays... just add an agreement that anyone using the given models should include a thanx to the modeler for the use therof? maybe just add a list, let people add to the list what their making, and maybe even a request from others who need something, this could provide a way of avoiding duplicated creations where 4 or 5 people create an AK47 for example, so someone would mark the list of the object theyr creating, and then any other modeler would see its already being done, create something else thats not being done... and maybe also create the models to support more than one game engine, so you could import it whether youre using UnrealEngine or Source or whatever... right? This would be apreciated alot, and thanx to whomever started this already with the 2 above mentioned weapons, its a good start for this idea =] I hope to see alot of support from the vets and newbs, and those inbetween -- The best work never was and never will be done for money. It's a fine idea, but if you're after placeholders why not just use stuff from the base game you're modding? -- "lets say Portal is a puzzle game, so its a rehash of Tetris" |

I could, but it makes for poor substitutes you know... like using UT3, how do i create a medevil mod with swords and horses for example? or WW2 mod? I mean its hard to use just that for whatever mod you may want to create, and and not many people have the imagination to see past it and pretend the rocket launcher is an RPG, or the linkgun is an m16 lol... im talkin about simple low poly models, the kind that can be identidied as the object you wish to realy portray, a weapon, a character, a sword, a tree, a computer lol general stuff, just for the purpose of a rough prototype perhaps, then after making the mod hire modelers to create high detailed versions to polish the mod for a final release =] also this will be usefull for textures, and i think their called skinners for models right? -- The best work never was and never will be done for money. Kaz im not sure what youre trying to say... I understand its going to appear in many mods, but as i said, low poly models, not realy meant for final product, more like substitute to represent what its supose to be untill a modeller creates the final models??? and thanx Raz, ill check it out =] -- The best work never was and never will be done for money. also check out Blenderartists.org both have free models (first is just free models, 2nd has free models in threads). There's actually quite a few "free" model sites out there. Definitly be sure to check out quake series & doom series mods, many authors release their content (maps, textures, models, etc) in the CC for nothing more then a credit in the readme. -- Go play some Quake 2: q2server.fuzzylogicinc.com |

Thanx friar man... all this is great though, but not exactly what im trying to achieve, i just figured that ModDB could also provide such models for modders without modelers, instead of having to go everywhere to find content, why not just have it all here along with the tutorials... but supose nobody interested in that, atleast provide an artical with these sites as to where one can find these free and pay for models in the addons section and have some people add more sites they may know off? -- The best work never was and never will be done for money. here's another site: Blender-games.webs.com what's stopping people from uploading models to their own profiles? I put all the assets for my paintball mod under my profile. Perhaps if there was another category with "addon" & "mod": asset. -- Go play some Quake 2: q2server.fuzzylogicinc.com |
