Mortal Men <<< Name of the MoD

Mods are no longer impressive, everyone looks for Modlers, Coders and forgets inovation... Modding groups appear to only be adding weapons or copying wars that have already existed like vietnam or world war 2.. and I see another Action Quake or Counter-Strike mod made.. well you get the point..

For the past three months I've written up 30 pages of notebook paper making up a fictional war.. in a realistic world by predicting world politics... and applying real science like Super Conductors and Cold Plasma

The mod in general is going to combine alot that can be seen in WarCraft III
*not* in the sense of building a tower... or mining gold..

but in the sense of a damage system and "minor" abilties... Classes will use a varity of weapon types be have differnt types of shielding etc.. pending on what you are you will be able to counter another class... in WarCraft III you see players apply stratgey like CRAP look he has 12 Druid of Claw and 6 Chimera my Frost Wyrm are toast! but then something CLICKS....
(INNER WORKINGS OF HUMAN BRAIN) ;)
Frost Wyrm have Heavy armor = Takes 200% from Pierce
DoTT have Pierce Attack
DoTT have Light Armor = Takes 50% from Pierce
Frost Wyrm have Pierce Attack
Chimera cant attack Frost Wyrm but DoTT can
Gargs do Normal Damage
DoTT have Light Armor
Gargs do 200% damage To Light Armor
Chimera cant GARGS..

*bleh* WarCraft 101.. (sorry about that) but this dynamic can be added to a FPS
what do you guys think in general about this idea?

If anyone is looking to start a mod team...
as of now I have one coder, plenty web-design, one skinner, and 15 page manual (should be 40 when finished) :) contact me mikeymigsx@hotmail.com :D

Not the best way to impress people, or get people who make mods interested

MiGS wrote: everyone looks for Modlers, Coders

That is because they are neccissary

it took you that long to write a plot?

that long? pfff its not even done yet... :)
for each damage type (antimatter, plasma, explosive, distruptors)
It took me atleast a page to describe effects, range, damage, actual science, story line etc... I'm really putting together a detailed mod..

cant wait to see it in code :)

What mods have really impressed you?
Todays top Mods....
-Counter-Strike... a bunch of new weapons nothing new at all..
-Day of Defeat... copied an existing war(but did it well)
-Desert Combats.. the Counter-Strike of Bf1942 (Still early to judge it though)
-UrbanTerror... Action Quake3?

Orignal Mods
-Enemy Territory... ET will replace RtCW *GJ Splash Damage!*
-Natural Selection... SHOCKING... (has many many shity parts to it)

Idealy I want to make something people havent seen before.. I'm not interested in an arms race that just offers countless amounts of weapons...
Speaking of which.. remember Firearms beta 1.. honestly it had 15+ rifles which all did the same thing.. everyone just ran around with the super shotgun and 200 Bullet Clip Colt :)

Original mods:
Hammy-bob
Crapack
Gargoyle Arena
etc...

Unoriginal cliche mods that are always ambitious and always fail and unfun when you play em:
Trigun HL
DMZ
ESF
Gohans Hidden Powerany DBZ mods
any more bullet mods

You'd better complete that name. I'm not sure whether its a Gargantua or not.

i find its not best to rush into the community proclaiming your idea is the best or prejuding what people think, i think thats the number 1 mistake new modders make.

Never said I had the best... but I really do believe I have something that will really be a new positive experience...

However I do think that many mod groups are just copying what has already been done...

Maybe in a week I'll put up another post with a real substance...
I sat down to send an email to an old friend of mine reguarding my mod but I was lost how to really put everything in perspective..

but here were my goals when I thought this up...
(1) Make four different types of weapons that will cater to games of all types.. example
All former CS players in my BF1942 clan want to use the BAR Assault(COLT) weapon
All former Quake players use the NO4 bolt action(RAIL GUN)
(2) Offer 4-5 classes 3 which will work together 2 which will be tanget which will cater to people comming from DM style games and Team style games
(3) Add real substince, add countries and a crisis thats not cheesy nor too stupid i.e Nuclear War
(4) Bring about a WorldWar II style combat.. If air fighters were added they would have bullets not missles, less automatic weapons
(5) Use actual science being researched, Cold Plasma Shileding, Super conductors, antimatter
(6) Add something similar to a WarCraft III Status system
EXAMPLE
Units hit by a nightelf dryard in WC3 are slowed for about two seconds
Units hit by plasma in MortalMen burn for two seconds

Whoa you're confusing me. First you had chimeras and gargoyles and now you went to modern weapons?!

Sounds like a Mel Brooks movie gone wrong.

"Oh no, the gargoyles and chimeres are coming at us!"
"Quick! Get your AWP, HE grenades, and panzerschrecks"

Hmm, that doesn't sound right at all...

If you want to make a mod, actually be able to do something other than idea's. Just about anyone can be "IdeaMan", webmaster, or PR. But not everyone can model, map, and code...GOOD. Infact, most mods I see, the team leader does something really important, like coding. I do coding in my mod, plsu other little things. :)

shortcutman is damn right. you'll find ideas go almost no where. im in charge of a mod, and i do a little bit of everything and all of the modelling. i can also map, and make halfway decent textures. coding i cant ;-).
