just what i said in subject line. Moddb will not let me download any mods and i've tried more than one mod i'm following and a few from games that i hate. what will happen is the black box will show up when i click on the "Download NOW" button on any site. Normally, you get the black box briefly then the white box with a static ad in it and it says in the upper left hand corner to click here if your download doesn't open up with in like 5 seconds.

Well, i've given the damn thing over 2 minutes to open up and start my downloads. and for the trits who NEED an url.... i've tried the following ones.

Moddb.com
Moddb.com
Moddb.com
Moddb.com I dont even play this game.. just wanted to see if anything actually downloads.

ANd, yes i checked to see if any other blocking programs i have are now set to block moddb and they aren't. in fact their settings are just the same as they were when i last downloaded something from moddb on this past wednesday!

fix this now, please. send all replies to mikey1871@gmail.

thanks

If anyone is still having this problem, internet explorer works, but you need to pick a different mirror

Here's confirming Opera downloads fine.

No downloads work for me. I get 404 - Not Found and a black screen when I try to download any files on Firefox.

Jun 5 2011 Anchor

me too

Well the way I am now getting around it is getting to the filefront mirror for the things I want to download using Internet Explorer and then copy-pasting the filefront link into Firefox.

That's a joke right?

I hope so. Either way, Multiple people (including me) can confirm the downloads work fine. So the problem lies on your end.

What OS and browser do you use?

I am also having this problem with Firefox and Windows 7. Every mod I try to download ends up as a black box with a 404.
I also tried Chrome, and was even desperate enough to let Internet Explorer out of its cage in the basement.

no, the problem is on your end with your program NO not interacting with firefox correctly. Your stuff worked fine with firefox 4.? on Wednesday. AS far as i know there hasn't been an update to firefox since then and NO update to firefox has EVER created this problem!

Very wrong answer telling me to go use a different browser. NOT MY JOB!!!!! MODDB fixes their mess-up with firefox.

-_- FireFox 4 and no probs what so ever.
And you do realise the suggestion to try a different browser was to help narrow down what may have been the cause, no?
Good luck getting help with that attitude.

well "arkage" when u actually grow up maybe you'll still have your immature attitude. and for your damn information. the way in which the prior "kid" told me to just use another browser wasn't very adult. oh wait.. your reply was immature also. so why am i even replying to you??? or yeah, cause i always reply to others.

it also does the same malfunction on chrome browser.

This is unproductive.

Anyway, if people have any idea what the trouble may be, I would appreciate it. I've tried Firefox, IE, and Chrome. None of them work. Am I just doing it wrong?

EDIT:
I finally managed to click the 'mirrors' box before the entire thing went 404, and I find that the filefront mirror works, but all of the moddb mirrors 404 on me. This is workable, but irritating.

What the hell. It's been quite a while since I've seen such an impolite person on ModDB. (Or.. maybe not.) Anyway, if you are really 52 years old you should know how to behave by now, so why not put that knowledge to use?

Anway, FireFox 4.0.1 user here, downloads working perfectly fine.

Most likely you have a bad attitude problem...thats why moddb doesnt let you download any mods...because its only for the cool, polite people.... :D

I'm having this problem too. I believe it started after downloading firefox 5. I hope this helps. I get 404 not found with the black square after clicking download on every single file I've tried to download on the site. I'm always patient as this problem might be happening to a few of us, so any help from you guys would be awesome! thanks ;)

Easy there, just answer the questions patiently :) we have to narrow down the problem
Multiple people confirmed (including myself) that firefox 4 has no problems downloading.
Have you tried on another computer around the house? Have you tried clearing the cache? (How-to)

i'm not the only person who is experiencing this problem of mod-db not functioning on different browserrs.

as to Metalspy... well, sorry, I'n no longer in the mood to generally give unlimited kindness to professionals. They have pretty much exhausted that by usually being way to greedy.

I'm also quite blunt, if you need to have everything "sugar coated" tough!!!

I have also been in touch with the lead for mod-db and he is very concerned that myself and others are experiencing this particular problem. It isn't a generic problem. It's seemingly quite specific.
btw, my version of firefox is 4.0.1

as to Sigma... it's nice to hear from you that multiple people have confirmed that you have no problems, BUT multiple people have confirmed that it is not functioning for them also. AND btw... it's the US that counts. Not how many people have proper usage and fortunately the people in charge of moddb know this. Also, i do not need more than one computer in my place. So no, i can't troubleshoot this problem from another computer.

I have just tried to download on mod-db using the safari browser and it will not function properly either. I still get the black box and then only for a second or 2 do i get the white trimmed box with the disclaimer of " if your download doesn't start in 5 seconds, please click here" in the top left hand corner. then the black box comes back.

I only have problems downloading from moddb, just in case someone else decided to spout about that tangent.

Sounds like you have some sort of pop-up blocker/firewall that won't allow it to show. Just temporarily disable it or make an exception for moddb.com.

Edit: I did read the OP (lol), but this is the only thing that makes sense.

If this really was a problem on moddb's end, it would effect alot more users. So more likely a problem on your end, are you accustomed to computers? You do know how to turn off security settings on the browser and firewall? You don't need to take this as being impolite, I'm just wondering.

Also Mikey, this is a forum which users post, rarely do mods answer users questions, they will pm if needed. So you are simply being impolite to random people, how sad.

Actually, for the links you posted I'm having the same problems, too. This was in Firefox, though; Internet Explorer seems to work just fine.

I just tried all the links in firefox and they seemed to work for me...interesting indeed

i dont have any pop up blockers to interfere with anything. and it's only the new mods placed on moddb since the beginning of June that seem to be affected.

and yes... Matt_bak3r it would appear that the maker of moddb sees this as a problem. him and i have been in regular contact trying to diagnose the4 problem that i and others on here are having.

I think it has to do with the new ads that run when u try to download a newer mod. I have no problem downloading for any place else. inf act Desura works perfectly. I have been working with computers for over 30 yrs people. I do know how they are supposed to function. As i said before, this problem is not a simple problem to fix at all.

thanks for everyone's ideas on how to fix this. who knows maybe someone with less experience than the developer or I will give us the clue he needs to fix this problem.

I'm having the same problems. Firefox and Chrome the modal opens, but immediately goes black. With IE9 I'm able to select the filefront mirror to download. I'm on Win7 64bit, both my Firefox and Chrome installs are saying they're up to date.

Just some info that'll hopefully help get a fix in, I don't wanna use IE if I don't have to :P

Tried Opera and Firefox 4.0, the problem I think is the desura download server is not accepting scripts properly based on locality.

For all the people who can't download files, what region are you located in?

Jun 8 2011 Anchor

I'm in California. I'm getting the same problem. None of the download links work. I've tried on IE, Chrome, and Opera on my PC and Firefox on my Mac. The mods I try to download aren't found on desura either, so there's no hope there. I asked a friend across town to try and he also got the 404 File not found Error.
