I just realized that I have not written any story for my mod. I just have some story in my head, but now I'm thinking that I should write some story and then I have no trouble thinking of what will some maps look like and what will happen and so on...

Anyway, how long should the story be? When I was in school, I used to write some 2-4 page long stories. Is that good length for a mod story? Or should it be 10 pages like some mod design documents?

It should be enough to make up a good gist of the story, but not so much as to let the mod be predictable. You should hide away the bigger part of it to really surprise the player. 2-4 pages is just fine, so you can set the game up, and it makes the person want to download it so that they learn more about what's actually going on in the game.

I hope that helps ;)

Of course I'm not gonna reveal this story in internet, maybe just some beginning... It's just for me to know what I'm doing...

And those 2-4 pages I'd written in school, they were written with hands, not computer. Writing them with computer would probably make them fit on one page... forgot to mention this earlier...

It doesn't really matter. I typed a story up that I'm gonna use for my mod and it's only 4 pages on Microsoft Word. Of course, I also have to do dialogue and step-by-step scripted sequences in the mod. But, that won't be necessarily for some time :)

You want it as long as is needed for you to follow it and have a decent lenth games. it does not need be every last thing but just the general flow.

Well, it would depend on the depth of the story itself. For a brief Id like story, you could use 1 side of A4 as the public basis and perhaps a max of 4 sides as the non-public basis.

If you're gna build some crazy RPG type shiat, I'd whack up to 20 sides of story together publically, and some crazily more for the story stuff :)

Sure, I wrote up something to the mod ideas forum, I'll look for the thread...
okey, here it is: Moddb.com

That thread has some story, but it's just too short I think. It's more like what would be told in the backside of the gamebox... Some stuffs has changed, like player does not need to find clothes...
The style/gameplay of the mod is some FPS action/adventure.

The story is not going to be like some "normal" story. I just got an idea that I write some stuff about the places player can go. So it's going to be like many little stories... good idea?

well if its multiplayer then you migth need only the double and if its singleplayer then the players want story in-game.

I'm planning to have both single and multiplayer in it. Well the multiplayer will be just (team)deathmatch, maybe capture the flag, but that's just extra. Even the deathmatch is kinda extra, but I'll provide some deathmatch maps in the mod download packet.

I think I'll write some more deeper story after I've written stories about the places player can go.
