hey folks, i had just had an idea for a quake 3 gameplay mod, and i wanted to see what others thought. kind of vague. it not a total conversion of lord of the rings, just the underlining objective.

good vs. evil

GOOD Objectives: Destroy ring in enemy base.
Escort ring bearer as much as possible.
Keep enemy from getting ahold of ring.
if nothing else, eliminate the enemies completely.

EVIL Objective: Prevent the forces of good from destroying ring.
Get ring from forces of good.
if nothing else, eliminate the enemy completely.

now, i cant decide on one major thing. should it be like cs where you get 1 life? or should it be unlimited? what do you guys think? anyway, here are the rules i thought of so far:

Rules:

1.The forces of good spawn with one person designated the "ring bearer". Everyone else escorts the ring bearer. If the ring bearer is killed, another team member can pick up the ring, but the team will suffer for letting the true bearer get killed (i cant decide this. maybe they lose points, or maybe the enemy team gets more lives, i dunno).If the next ring bearer dies, they suffer more, etc...

2. The ring bearer can only carry a basic weapon (machinegun, small sword, pistol, whatever). He/she carries a basic weapon and the ring. He can put the ring on. This will make him invisible from everybody. However, anyone can still see the ring bearer on their radar (which has to be added).

3. If the enemy kills the bearer, and picks up the ring, the round/game is over.

4. If the bearer wears the ring for more than a certain amount of time, he becomes visisble, but also bright red ( so the enemy can easily spot him, like the movie)

well, thats all i can think of. i dont know if this is some great mod, and i dont know if someone is gonna steal it now ;)

im gonna start on this eventually, when im better at coding. my friend it getting down moddeling via gmax. well, just wanted to see what everyone else thinks.

What engine will it use?EDIT: oops, didn't see that Q3 thing. Sounds pretty good though ;)


P.S.
A machine gun is not a basic weapon, unles you mean and automatic rifle, or sub-machine gun. Anyway, I hope this doesn't make me sound like an ass.

Sounds like it would work as a StarCraft mod, because there are so many of those that just take themes from other games but can't change graphics and all that :)

Other than that, sounds fun, but if anybody ever hears of it you'll get sued :(

why will i get sued? wouldnt i get sued if i sold it? but im not selling it, or at least not making money

i mean, there is a star wars BF1942 mod, and a terminator mod in the making.

i meant if i didnt change any guns in quake 3 itself. the machine gun is the basic weapon (except for gauntlet)

Those mods had permission, you would need to get permission too. Otherwise they would probably shut you down :(

No, this is very low profile kind of LOTR game, so I don't think you would get sued. You espicially wouldn't get sued if you had guns. O_o I quite like this idea actually.

Actually, the Tolkien Family©®™ is VERY nitpicky about legalities. Our school had to yammer on the phone for weeks just to be able to perform the (official, mind you) Hobbit play.

i just wish i could start on it faster, but my mod "team" consists of two people (complete mod newbs).

well, i figured i could post a message on the main menu or something saying that LOTR is copyright, or we didnt make it up we arent taking credit for the characters/story, etc...

tahts the thing. i cant decide what kind of weapons. i know LOTR timeperiod wouldnt work. so modern weapons, but i dont want the weapons to be the same old machineguns, submachine guns, etc... that are in a lot of tactical mods/games today. dunno
