That is absolute rubbish, do be quiet. Lightwave is confusing? Well actually, the workflow is rather refined, and due to the use of a "labelled" opposed to an "icon" driven interface, is easy for beginners to pick up. Admitedly it is not as widely supported as 3DS by the games industry, however can be applied for use in games with a little effort. As a matter of a fact, two recent examples of Lightwave in practice are UT2003 and Doom3. Both are using Lightwave for modelling purposes (even supporting native .lwo). It's a great all round 3D solution, don't dismiss it because the crowd uses 3DS ;-) In reply to the original question ... what exactly are you trying to do? Are you trying to extract a UVW map from your model? It's unclear from your question, and I dont want to waste my time typing a useless response. PM if you're still unsure. - Edited By Vyse On Wed 16th, Jul 2003 @ 6:29:11pm |

Lightwave is a spectacular modeler. 3DSM is widely known to be the Microsoft of 3D modeling suites - Everyone uses it, but no one wants to. |

I wouldn't agree with that! 3DS is a competent application, however I'm simply saying it isn't the only 3D solution. I don't use it myself however, and have very little experience using it. ... I can't really comment on it specifically though. Lightwave is a greater modeller, yes ... and can only continue to get stronger, with developments as an animation platform. And, it has beeen able to branch further into this area of the game market since version 6, with the introduction of the character animation tools known as IntelligEntities (incorporating morph targets - Skelegons, Endomorphs and Multi-Meshes) and new IK system. Now I wait for Siggraph 2003, and news of version 8 - Edited By Vyse On Thu 17th, Jul 2003 @ 7:16:50am |
