mate, theres mods for almost all of those games, i think you should be more specific about what you want from modding. Your gonna eventually have to get a 3d program (other than google sketchup) that you can use, and i would advise getting photoshop or gimp, once you are there and you have decided what you want to do, then go to youtube and watch some tutorial videos, there the nuts when it comes to starting out. When you think you've got yourself to a reasonable standard of modeling, then learn to uvmap and texture. When you've got yourself to a reasonable standard of uvmapping and texturing, learn to animate. Learn how to compile for the specific game engine you are using, for example, with source, learn how to creating .qc files, and such. Once you've done that, most mods will snap you up. --

Watch some tutorials and get a modeling program. Depending on what game you are hoping to model will probably influence your decision on what program to choose. Most people will pick Blender because it is free though some games will not work with it, like C&C Generals Zero Hour. -- Can you tell me doctor why I still can't get to sleep? |

Dont learn to model for mod... that'd be the worst way to learn about 3d stuff. Grab any 3d app and then learn how to use it. Start doing simple thing, then try to model props. Then you could read about videogame optimisation. That'd be the easiest way to learn modelling. However having to work for a mod just to learn modelling isnt something you should do. I remember the first time I opened 3d max I nearly cryed I bought a book and started doing thing. |
