I actually liked the demo. It feels so fluid-like. The ground level gun battles suck, though

Discuss.

i loved the very beginning, parachuting from a helicopter and stunting onto someones roof, knocking them out, taking them down, getting out, hopping on a motorcycle, getting up to a reasonable speed with pursuers on my tail, opening the parachute and flying off the cycle to the heights of the AMAZINGLY big map- all without loading times

only to go on to hijack a helicopter, spyboat, and prototype war-truck

i'm gonna have to pick this one up on xbox though, even though it runs on low end systems, its really the kind of action game that half depends on looking good

Downloaded the demo the other day, but I haven't gotten around to playing it yet. I will soon, though. The premise sounds a lot like Boiling Point, though.

Got the demo over Live Marketplace. Very fun, reasonably pretty (reminds me of chromehounds). I thought that the shooting dynamic was played reasonably well for a third person game. I find, however, that shooting whilst driving is incredibly difficult due to the motion blur. Also, the helicopters control 'funney'; this is most likely the camera spazzing out however. I liked the way vegetation deforms when you walk/drive/shoot through it. The map was amazingly detailed for its size. I didn't like the 'do such and such before sundown' contrivance; it seemed as though the developers were putting a cap on the amount of fun I could have. Overall, quite good.

Q: could anyone get the grappling hook feature thingy to work? I felt it should have been there, but was strangely absent.

That's only the demo i beleive. honestly if i put out a game with that much terrain i wouldnt give people free roam over square miles of shit with ton of stuff to do- they might as well release it free then

I downloaded it a couple of days ago. It was pretty fun, especially the opening sequence. The only part I stopped at was when you constantly threw grenades, and that was your only weapon. I'm sure there's better sequences after that, though, but I had to go to school (I'm at college, after all).

Looks to be one of the biggest sleeper hits of the year.

I used my submachine guns, pistols, and assault rifles in tandem.

I felt a little like the game just chucked you in screaming "ZOMG DO T3H MISSION NOW FASTER FASTER FASTER TIMES ALMOST UP LOL" and bombarded you with help tips that I had to press "enter" to get past. Other than that, quite fun. Sorta "Vice-City"-cum-"Farcry"

It's alright. I need to play it a little more, although the gameplay reminds me a little too strongly of Total Overdose. ¬_¬

Aug 27 2006, 5:19am Anchor

Yeah, I agree.... It's like combining Boiling point with Total overdose and add a mix of gta there.... And some stability issues (though that was included in boiling point)

Engine wise, it looks good. You can climb high with the choppers and shoot targets on the ground... They are still visible, and you can still see them explode :D Great fun with those choppers!

I love Just Cause. I do believe this is worth groveling my parents for.

But then they'll be like "No, it's schooltime." and I'll be like "OMG PLZ!" and they'll be like "No." and I'll be like "OMG PLZZZZZZ!!!" and they'll be like "Ummm..." and I'll be like "I promise my grades won't slip!" and they'll be like "If your grades slip, your 360 is gone. How much does it cost." and I'll play it and chuckle to myself.

Nothing like an obstinate teenager with a penchant for annoying his parents.

I really liked the 360 demo. Free diving is by far my favorite part.

If it would be moddable, I'd make a post-apocalypse mod for it :D

Anyone else notice that the main character is basically just Agent Sands from Once Upon A Time In Mexico?

I don't know if I like it yet. Played it acouple of times and once I even took a heli to break down the barricades and freed the village. I like how anything's possible, but I don't like the ground shooting, the driving, the diving...
Driving feels like swimming on a watery surface or gliding on ice. There seems to be little difference to the cars behaviour on different surfaces. It just glides like a hovecraft and I don't like that. That's something GTA SA did very well in comparison. Can this guy run at all? I don't notice him running any faster, but then again I didn't read about all the controls, because the pop ups were so plentiful and annoying and gave me more info then I needed. Swimming feels terrible, the underwater world was barren were I dived and I didn't get the controls to work very well. Soemtimes when I was swimming he was underwater all the time, even though I didn't push "e" to dive. The helicopter turns around so slow its a pain in the ass, but otherwise its pretty much fun to fly them (have you tried jacking one of the other helis? :-)) And another thing I didn't ike was that somehow the enemies stopped following me sometimes and were just gone when I wasn't even at the harbor yet. That doesn't make it feel very alive. But some things I do like, seems to have a lot of space for exploration and it looks and runs very good ono my PC. I'm gonna watch this game, maybe rent it for a start, but I don't know if this is a keeper, like GTA SA. Seemsto need some more works, the shadows are weird, too. Doesn't feel like a finsihed product to me and i hope the will get rid of the annoying issues until release in september.

From what I've read, after the first hour, it's the same thing over and over again.

Besides, I'm waiting until October 20th or so to get Blitz: The League for 360. Then I'll consider buying Just Cause.

It is pretty much the same thing over and over again. But each time adds something new to the missions. Like new weapons, or new vehicles, etc. Besides, if you get bored of the story missions, there are side missions and bonus missions.

it's short

if an 8gb game is as long as a 90s shareware title, something is wrong.

Yeah the main quest is very short, but fun. Not sure its worth the full pricetag though.

Has no one mentioned Mercenaries as a comparison? I found all the factional infighting and constant state of war between NPCs very reminiscent of that. Stand around for a 30 seconds and odds are a chopper will show up to light up a nearby technical.

No one on here has, but several reviews have mentioned it.

I like the game..... Car handling still seems odd, but the explosions, tanks, and other fun stuf make up for it......
