Joust mod Thread

This mod is pretty self explainitory, its a joust. What our players will do is start off at oposite sides of our maps, and when they're given the signal, they will ride towards eachother on horses, while trying to hit the other with their lance by positioning it in just the right spot. Other factors will come in when they're trying to aim including wind resistance, and the motion of the horse. The matches will be played out in a tournament style, with brackets and all. You will be randomly placed against another player and the winner moves on until they win every challenge. There will be multiple styles of armor our knights can wear, and you can even change their color. Further details will be decided once we start the coding process, and we'll be sure to keep you up to date.

Please post, we would like your feedback on the idea. We dont really need a large team to pull this off. I am doing mapping and blizzardwire is team leader and website designer. We are looking for a decent modeler and a coder later on in production.

How about a medieval mod that encompasses Jousting?

i think a mod that is just jousting would not be played much. it will get old really fast. try doing like a medivial games mod. have sword fighting, arrow shooting, chicken chasing. i dont know. but you might want more stuff in the mod to attract more attention

well we were considering adding in a couple of other events, but a major factor about this game is that its simple. Like games on calculators that are really capturing but not full scale, and this will be really fun for parties, quick rounds. but we will take the peoples ideas into consideration when were making those decisions. i understand the quick thing, but to keep interest longer them like 30 min, even at a party, i think youd need other events. I used to have those calculator games, but i used them for when i was in math class, i dont play those kinda games outside of that. When im on my computer i usually choose to play something a little more. I think if you were to add in other events, make them different skill levels and you can win medals or tropheys or something and try to collect em all (this is assuming it under sp) I think the quick little game idea is good, but i think it could use a little more to make it more attractive

Why don't you make a 3D version of the game Joust?

I know what u mean, why would u do a calulator game at home, i think i phrased what i was saying wrong. I meant it'd have all fun of a regular mod, just quick in time. I like the idea of other events that challenge your skill, but we'd have to relate that into the simple idea.

ya im not saying make it complex, im just saying other quick games will add more to taht party atmosphere and the longevity of playing the mod. after a few rounds of joust ppl will get bored, then theyd move on to another event. i think it would just help with play time

We could add swordplay and archery... Possibly some other medival tournament events in as well. the archery could be just standard First person with increased aiming difficulty and the sword fights could be made into a strategic fight using swords and shields to block and counter.

The best mods start as a simple concept. It's so much easier to meet realistic goals. You can always add to it later.

Actually even with all the other events in the game it would not require much work to complete this mod. The mapping is easy being as the areas are small and as for weapon and char. models we would only need a couple, maybe one or two per event. I am pretty sure that only the jousting part of the mod will be released for the alpha and beta release of the mod then we will add content from that point.

Has anyone else tended to notice that unless mods are either really big and revolutionary (Natural Selection, Desert Combat, Sven Co-op, Forgotten Hope (over 1gb installation!)) or really small (Half-Life 2, Doom 3 mini mods) they aren't very popular?

This mod seems to fall in the middle.

That looks like a really great mod, but we really want to focus on simply jousting, and have other small competitions, its more of a tournament mod. but that mod is awesome, good job

Hey thanks, we would really appretiate some cpanel hosting, our webhost doesnt quite offer that.

Yea I used to play PvK which if I am correct is their previous mod for hl1. But I think that mod is more medival war than tournament style fighting.

Yea, it would be sweet to play some jousting game, I don't think there has ever been one.

Yea I think it would be sweet just to see lances explode and people ragdolling of their horses .
