My Idea is Dreadly, a HL2 mod. It is a single player survival-horror mod, about a man, Ethan Scriber (or he may remain unnamed, not yet decided), trying to escape his house, which has become a hellish alternate dimension. The story starts with the camera turning on, revealing Ethan's birthday party, hosted by a couple of his friends. Not long after, the lights shut off, and turn back on to reveal that his house has been transformed into a living creature. All doors have disappeared, and all windows show a perfectly normally world outside. Strange creatures wander around, with nothing on their mind except to kill.

Soon, after the first enemies start appearing, you discover that the character and the camera share . Your health is represented by the battery on the camera screen. Your health packs are either first aid kits or wall outlets. You start out with the ability to kick, but soon you can transfer electric shocks through the camera for an instant kill (at the cost of your health/battery power).

Stronger enemies, which are revealed later, can only be killed by blunt force. You do this by grabbing a weapon, which you discover you can not yet use. To use them, you set the camera on a flat surface and play a sound recording of you speaking. After it's playing, you hide in a corner (all the while this is still being recorded by the camera) and remain silent, and wait for the enemy to investigate the camera. Then you sneak up behind it and hit with your weapon a few times. Afterwords, you pick up your camera, and continue on.

I have some other ideas, but I'm waiting until I have a definite grasp until I have them all. If you would want to help me, just PM me.

I can be a concept artist, composer, plot writer, amateur (AMATEUR) Hammer Editor.

The intro scene reminds me of Cloverfield.. :P
But it sounds cool indeed, would love to see something like this.

Actually, this was inspired by a whole bunch of handi-cam/shaky-cam movies.
Every time I walk out of one I say "Why isn't there a video game like that?"

F.E.A.R. 2 and remembered another cause of dizziness – the screen
bobbing while a character walks. In F.E.A.R. 2 and several other
first-person video games, the screen bobs up and down as the character
moves. The bobbing, I gather, corresponds with the cadence of the
character’s walk. This doesn’t make me dizzy or nauseous as quickly as
the other factors discussed in this post, but I can usually only play a
game that does this for an hour or so before becoming dizzy. (Original).

I tried a similar attempt and threw in blur effects to go with it. Hurt my head after awhile too. Not that it 'can't' be done, just noting over-doing shake effects and such can have bad effects, which would explain why its not too popular in the form your describing.

Since FEAR was much more of a minor head-bob, a more drastic bob based on a 'handi-cam' might really cause a headache.

The idea itself sounds good though, and I might be mis-reading what your saying altogether.

I'm loving this idea, just a couple questions which i need answers for

1. When you are separated from the camera e.g. when you make it play a sound recording to lure in the enemy, would you keep the view of the camera or have a view from the Ethan's eyes?

2. with the camera and person having a combined HP, would you gradually lose HP just like on a real camera?
otherwise best of luck to you and you have a great concept.

Well, it wouldn't be to blurry, and the only real effects would be a slight walking motion and a camera-style hud.

1. The viewpoint will always be the camera's, mostly so you can see the creatures observing the camera (for an added scare).

2. Well, I was originally going to say that, but that might be inconvenient after a while.

Great concept!
How will the house change, more than doors disappearing?
Will you be distorting it, like making corridors very long, etc?
Why can the protagonist only look through the camera?
Will the protagonist himself maybe change into something else,
which is revealed when he turns the camera around, to look at his own face?
Why did that evil force take over his house?

This would work real good as a short little mod.
Maybe 1 hour of gameplay, but lots of interesting moments.

1.  Well, I was planning some things like vines on walls, the ceiling a sort of fleshy material, some other things.
2. Long corridors, random darkness areas, random bottomless pits, etc.
3. The entire game is seen through the camera, not the protagonist.
4. SPOLIER! :devious:
5. Well, the character isn't interested in finding out how his house became the way it did, just with getting out. But is is (kind of) revealed later in the story.

Thanks! I was actually looking for maybe 2 hour gameplay, but thanks for your feedback!
