Ok, I am looking into getting a console for me and my family - I spend too much time on the Computer and I need to spend more time with them. I am looking at both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 but I can only buy one. I am looking at the PlayStation 3 right now due to its free online gaming service (PSN) and its many features and Exclusive titles (PlayStation Home, etc) I am also some what biased against the Xbox 360 due to the RROD issue they had for so long and I do not know if they got it fixed... PS3 Games - Dust 514 Feel free to try and convince me other wise |

Well, I want to preface this by saying that a gaming console is not really a great way to spend time with your family. Modern co-op basically boils down to getting angry at each other, and of course single-player doesn't help. While the 360 did fix it's RROD problem with the S models (any new one you buy today), there is the online fee (which you shouldn't be too too concerned about if you're looking for family time?). Many 360 games end up coming to PC anyway, assuming you run a decent Windows box, so I'd probably persuade you towards a PS3 (though, I only own a 360, myself). Regardless, from your game list, it seems that you're into FPS, and while I'm not into them at all, I understand that the 360 has more high-quality exclusives. |

I also own a 360, and didn't realize PS3 offered free online game play. That sounds like a winner for that reason alone. |

Hey, YamahaAlex37 PS3 has free online play and a payed for version which is on par with Xbox live. PlayStation Plus, I believe that it is called. They may have lowered the price point of PlayStation Plus when i saw it last.
I am into all sorts of games RTS Games being my favorites The 2 Real Games that I am into ATM is Minecraft and Hemogony Philip of Macedon. As for coop we enjoy games like Fable 3 / Infamous that have open worlds and you can get back at each other. I am starting to think that I should upgrade my computer instead |

I own both, still have a generation one 360 no rrod on it ever. However I use the ps3 more just because its a simpler interface, better controller (for me anyway) and MP does not require a subscription. --

id go with the xbox because ps3 got hacked because it didnt have a strong enough firewall and xbox does because no hacker has ever dreamed of hacking microsoft because theve been around since the 1980's so thats my opinion |

If you want to play with your family then i would suggest wii , not for cool graphics or best singleplayer games , but its pretty damn fun when playing with friends or family, i own it and have never regreted getting it, i leave singleplayers and ussual games to PC.. |

Eh, PS3 looks good and fancy and free online is nice but Xbox has some great games, is sturdy and can do everything the PS3 can do (at a cheaper price depending on the model.) The only thing the PS3 has is Bluray, but Xbox has things like Last.fm and Netflix. Just get what your friends have I guess. -- |

The anti aliasing on the PS3 is pretty bad, the lighting is better but the AA is bad and you have to keep in mind the Xbox is older. -- |

PS3 has Netflix, but I agree with Flash112 the wii is much better if you want to play with friends. |

PS3 is the better console, but the game selection isn't as good as the 360. I'd get a 360 to start out, unless there's a specific game you want that is only on the PS3. I have to agree that it depends on what games you play with your family. If they are sports, racing and stuff like that you should get a wii but if your family is more into shooters then you would be better off getting a Xbox360. |

1st off: don't. If you have to, get a PS3. Better value and free multiplayer. |

Community for PS3 is just as bad and the exclusives there are just as well as the Xbox's. Graphics are about the same as well except for lighting. -- |

I would get what ever your friends have, for me I prefer the xbox360, I like the controller more, I prefer the exclusives on the xbox (killzone 3 and uncharted are still badass) and the online in my opinion is better.
Depends on the developer really, if they know how to utilise the power of the ps3 properly, than yes it does have better graphics. Edited by: Ci47 |

I have both consoles - they are pretty much exactly the same. For the record, the hardware setup is more or less the same, so you're not going to get 'better graphics' out of either. Specific games on either platform always look better than other games on either platform, that's just how it is. Xbox live is a much more refined service than PSN - so you do get what you pay for. The 360 also has better family controls, and personally I feel that the access to smaller, more independant games via XBL is vastly superior to the similar setup on PSN. |

The Xbox 360 has been hacked more than once, just not on as grand a scale. Also, how old a company is doesn't necessarily mean it'll be better or worse. On the actual matter at hand (if you want the short version, just go to the bottom of my post)-- Also, as Macacos2 said, Xbox may have more people using Mics and playing multi, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'd -want- to play with them. Also, my PS3 is more often used as an entertainment center than just a game device. The PSN is very user friendly (I picked it up right away, whereas it took me about 20 minutes to figure out the Xbox 360's menu at a kiosk demo), and Playstation Plus has been offering a good bit more than what I've heard spoken about for LIVE Gold (does LIVE give you free games and hour long trials of games? I've yet to hear them do such a thing). I have a moderate gaming PC, I have a PS2, I have a PS3, and I have a Wii. That answer the question? Edited by: TheUnabridgedGamer |

@Paradigm - you should see all the games Microsoft has published into XBLA - let alone all the 3rd party titles - I have something like 50-60 indie titles sat on my 360 at the moment. |

Get whatever most of your friends have. If you don't have many friends but want to play online shooters all the time, get an xbox if you want to play mostly single player games with some online, get a ps3. If you want to go classic fun games with more local play, get a wii. |

I don't believe anyone else in this thread has opened up this can of worms! Namely, because OP didn't even include it, but that's neither here nor there. The Wii has a lot of games that you simply won't find on PC, in large part because most of it's great titles are either first-party or take (often lame) advantage of the remote. It's cheaper, great for family time, and has well more than enough games to supplement a PC diet. PC just simply doesn't have a ton of high-quality arcadey sports titles, 3D platformers (of a Nintendo calibur!), or even the neglected and underappreciated (due to social stigma and market saturation) mini-game and dance genre-style games. The Wii has a fantastic selection of games to play on it, despite what a lot of people would argue, both third-party and first (not that it matters, at the end of the day). |

There are a lot of good games on the Wii, it is true. Sadly there is also a monolithic pile of crap. The good games do render it a reasonable investment - however a 360 is cheaper and I wouldn't recommend the Wii over the 360. |
