Hello everyone

I am writer comic artist and animator, looking to produce my first game, I have been having trouble finding a producer NOT under contract or a company that will help me develop my game.

its seems like artists, game designers and programmers are on board but we need the right man or woman to make this happen for all of us

I have a game document ready and preliminary concept art

game is based on guitar hero and rock band and will advance on the patents themselves

here are my previous projects

1."Will advance on patents themselves"?

What? Are you licensing the IP? What are you talking about?

2. looking for a producer, and looking for a dev company are 2 very different things.

There is no way you’re going to find a company to "produce your game for free", no matter how successful your past projects have been.

It sounds like you don’t know what you’re looking for, since your telling us having a producer, and having an company is the same thing or your terribly unclear.

3. Are you saying you’re looking for a producer that hasn't signed a non-compete contract, or are you saying you don't intend to have a contract for this person when you find them? Or what?

4. You haven't provided enough information about our, your current team, your new project, genre, etc. to have a seasoned producer even consider your offer.

For someone who claims to be experienced, you some how have provided little actionable information to attract he kind of attention your looking for.

As I said this is my first game en devour... so I am un-familiar with the process fully... thats why I am here asking and learning :)

as an indie comic artist and animator I produced my own IPs and publish my own books. I am looking for a Producer that will help me figure how to tackle this beast

I am able to pull some funds for this as well as I am in Canada and the Government funds such projects with grants!

most producers I know are involved in the industry and have non compete contracts, my friends work from Disney, Coalition, EA and more

I already have a game document written for the game. we are a small team of 3, a writer illustrator and animator (I), a game designer and a junior programmer which is trying to learn bite and chew at the same time!

guitar hero, rock band, guitar freaks, and drum mania have battled over patents for years. we are making a rhythm based game that mashes up another genre which I cant express publicly (but would do that privately with an NDA)

I am looking for a producer manage this property and its process and a dev team or developer to turn it into code for a prototype, if this is better way of saying it (excuse my esl) and as I understand from the film industry, the producer will find the dev team?!?

ofcourse when I find the right producer I will sign a contract with them :)

I don't claim to have experience in games. I am known to make unique things... my cartoons, art gallery, and consumer products prove that, and promise to bring the same track record to games

thanks for the reply cause it seems like i definitely needed to clear this stuff up!

is there any other questions?

ok, thanks for being a little clearer, but my points still stand.

Also:

  1. If you have producer friends working for those companies, why not ask them for referrals?
  2. As said before, there is no way you’re getting an industry producer of the caliber your thinking of to manage and recruit your team for you. Your best bet is to find recruitment sites yourself, and look around, I could just hand you a list of recruitment sites I've accumulated through the 5+ years of doing this, but then you don't learn, and you won't reach your potential. Also you've said nothing that inspires me to do so.
  3. Doing a mash up of a genre is one thing, going after their patents to try and get their brand names is something else entirely. Saying you’re going after those bars automatically put you in an uphill battle, setting standards and expectations far before you show us what you have to offer.
  4. Film industry producers are NOT the same as Game Industry producers. There are countless differences, recruiting for a role or title you yourself admit you know little about is very very bad. Go do research on what a games producer actually does. I’ll give you a hand, read this article I wrote:

Gamedev.net

(It's long, but it's thorough. And it gives an introduction to games production, I have no film production experience, so can't directly compare them, but there are some sources there for your reference.)

5. If your expecting to find a person at this early stage to do all the management and recruitment for you, while leaving you to retain the primary creative direction, then you need to be more clear as to what you’re looking for, and you need to make something that looks much more attractive. You’ll also need to likely make them co-lead of the project, and maybe even business partner if you get there, if you don’t like that, tough.

6. In this Industry, there is no way to do it all yourself, even if you had tremendous success as a lone wolf, that will not apply here. Some of your experience and skills may be transferable, but assuming just because you succeeded in another industry, you’ll succeed here is at best foolishness, and at worse hubris. Games is a different industry all together, a culmination of many disciplines of science, technology, art, psychology etc. And those regularly shift based on what your trying to do, and what platform and genre you’re doing.(encase it wasn't clear, lone wolf mentality will actually hurt you a lot, so curb your enthusiasm as soon as possible.)

7. Unless you have guaranteed regular funding there is no way you’re going to get a company to make your prototype for you. I repeat this point again, since it’s clear that your laboring under the delusion that a company will pop out of nowhere, develop and ship your game, or a name brand experienced producer will sign on, and recruit and manage your team, all the while you sit at the top, providing the unchallenged creative direction.

Again and again, I’m astonished as to the ignorance of people new to, and trying to break into the games industry. No matter the age, or the background, there seems to be a consistent flow of dullards who want to get fame and fortune with minimal effort, assuming since the software your creating is a “game”, and the function is “entertainment”, that it is somehow easy. Or you’ll pay someone to carry out your ideas and dreams.

They don’t think that with books, not with film/ TV, and not with music, but you then roll them all up into one product, one industry, one vision, one purpose, and then they become as ignorant as a child.

8. The ONLY instance in which you'd find and get all you ask for is if you have a full incorporated company, with stable brand and business for years.....

9. How will the producer find the talent you want & need when you yourself (The leader), has no idea as to the type of talent you need and want? How will this person divine your project's wants and needs if your not clear or articulate enough to tell us without prompting?

The only way for you to get the quality you dream of is to rise to the occasion yourself, until you find an appropriate candidate, and if you can’t. then consider it a lesson in humility & growth.
