Hi, i'm running the latest version of Hammer editor as part of the source sdk which i downloaded through steam. The problem is that all the textures in the map are
really pixelated and just low quality.

I have chosen a texture @ 512x512 for the floor but it looks no different from the 128x128 texture. I found a couple of links giving some information about changing a
line in a file then pasting it into the relevent directory which some other people seem to of had success with but it hasn't made any difference for me, these are the links so you know what i'm on about

I have uploaded a screenshot of part of my map so you can see the quality.

Please can anyone help me with how to get higher quality textures?

Thanks

NOTES: I have the game HL2 installed if that makes any difference and a 2 grand gaming laptop which can handle the rendering just fine.

What video options are you running your game at? because thats an ingame game shot not a hammer editor shot.

also my screen resolution is 1920x1200 (native) with aspect ratio 16:10.

I get the same texture quality in the editor window aswell.

Thanks

If you can't run Source maxed with a $2,000 computer at 16:10 above 60 FPS flat, you wasted your money.

As for your issue, Hammer does not run off of your current video settings in Half-Life 2. Its made to look low-quality as you observe much more in a single instance than you ever would ingame. If the settings ran off of your video settings in Half-Life 2, Hammer would be very shitty and not run well at all for most users. Its a blessing, don't take it for granted.

You can turn those setting up higher which is why they appear low quality in game, but as the joker said there is no point in running hammer at high settings because it would lag a lot even for a decent video card.

I don't see any issue here, maybe I'm blind. Who knows? Source is not Crysis or Unreal 3.

If you want more detailed textures, I suggest you download a High-Res pack like the FF Cinematic mod. I don't recommend forcing the textures into your maps so the user gets to see them too, by the way.

ok thanks for the replies, I didnt realise the quality wasn't the same when test-running the level. It's just when I run the goldeney source mod the textures seemed much better than this & other games are flawless + Ma £2000 laptop is capable of running anything - like I said its a problem with hammer textures I was having so comments on the hardware aren't needed thanks

Two things also,

1) If the textures look stretched like on the top left flat thing you can set the texture scale smaller so it looks better.
2) place some lights full lite looks like vomit
