Ok, here what is goin on. Me and a bunch o' people at school decided to make a CS server for all of us to pwn each others asses at. So i volunteered (w00t amx_slay! ) to host it. First of all, my dsl is connected via ethernet. So i go ahead and create a listen-server everytime i create a server, i try to connect on my other pc to see if it works. That other pc don't find the server that is being hosted. I go to the host and see the IP address so i can enter it manually, it gives me a LAN ip address: 192.168.0.5:17010. Its supposed to be over internet though! So i'm here to ask everyone, how can i get a server running with a valid ip address and if it is valid to begin with, what am i doing wrong, and/or how do i find the proper IP address? --

did you try "status" in console while in the server? |

You're behind a NAT I assume? Set up port forwarding on the NAT for port 27015 and it /should/ be ok, then just specify your "internet" IP with the port 27015. Try telnetting your ip 27015 to see if you're accepting connections on that port. -- teamgames are for those who want to blame their losses on others. Play deathmatch you wuss. |

NAT? whats taht? ok, i found out that when i do a listen server, it creates one for a LAN game. how do i disable that? ror i think the stuff u typed will help but can u clarify it or at least reword it or something.... --

ahh, if it's just that, try sv_lan 0 and a NAT is often on a router to do internet connection sharing. You can tell if you're behind one since you'll probably have a "gateway" IP in your ipconfig/ifconfig. NAT stands for erm, dunno actually, probably network address table but that's kinda mundane and doesn't describe it. But try sv_lan 0 first -- teamgames are for those who want to blame their losses on others. Play deathmatch you wuss. |

u ror. errr, ok how do i find my actual IP address? and yes i am using a router. --

Using windows I assume? Try at a cmd prompt ipconfig /all Look for something that says gateway, that's probably your "real" IP. Otherwise try tracerouting somewhere and looking for the first non-internal IP, tho I don't know whether that works too well. -- teamgames are for those who want to blame their losses on others. Your router config may have something too, also make sure that on dedi that your binding to that ip and not the network one. |

ok, when i do sv_lan 0, it just makes my steam id "pending". i did stat which gives all server info, and i find that server ip is still a LAN IP. if i do a direct DSL connection from the modem to my comp, do u think it will work? --
|
||
Dec 7 2004 Anchor | ||
yeah that will, but it shouldn't be neccessary. and your comp will still detect your IP as a LAN ip, that's normal, but it shoudln't be the only way to connect to your IP. -- teamgames are for those who want to blame their losses on others. Play deathmatch you wuss. |

Is there somewhere you can go to config your router and set up port forwarding? -- teamgames are for those who want to blame their losses on others. Play deathmatch you wuss. |

well, my old router had that feature. when i access the ICS IP address, or 192.168.0.1, i get this web page where i can config my router. the new one isn't doing it must think of something....*thinks* --

what model/make is your router? It should have a page like that, it might just not be the default port. -- teamgames are for those who want to blame their losses on others. Play deathmatch you wuss. |

Type the IP of your gateway into your browser. You may get a config page. Or, go to Start -> Run, type in 'telnet' (Without the quotes). Now type in: On another note, NAT afaik stands for Network Address Translation. Also, please don't swear in topic names. |
