Going from 2D to 3D | Locked | |

I've made games mostly in 2D. I want to make my own games, with my own engine (well, XNA/Mono develop). However, I have read requently that such a feat is nearly impossible. However, there are games like Miasmata and Lugaru show it can be done, but these examples are so rare I don't know if I should stick to 2D. If it is feasible for a one man development team to make a 3D, how/where would you recommend I get started? Thanks. |

You'd probably be better off just downloading Unity, but if you must make it yourself, maybe start here: (note that I have no idea what your skill level is, so this may be too easy for you, but anyways) Edited by: ANumberSquared |

It's feasible but you just have to be more focused on your featureset. Don't expect to make something as extensible as crytek etc. |

I know XNA can do 3d. |

I'd have to second the recommendation to go with Unity. Unless you have a specific reason for wanting to reinvent the wheel Unity will save you years of development time and headaches. |

To anyone still wondering Unity / UDK are the game industry standards for commercial 3D games. Learning them will also yield you valuable experience that might get you a real job in VG industry if that's what you're going for. |
