Chamfer or Mesh Smooth modifier. Preferably the first one, if your model is still unfinished. Also make sure that the edges are connected/vertexes are weld, if you do that on several different meshes, which form one big one . --

Create a square with more intersecting lines and manually do 1 half of the ship. Once your happy add the mirror modifier to the ship, giving you a perfectly even ship. If you still not happy change the model to be a poly and use smoothing groups on the selected faces. Dont ever use turbo smooth, never, ever, ever! --

What you are talking about are basics even I understand, so please do us the favor and find yourself some introductory tutorials to 3Ds Max. If you don't know about vertex- and poly-modelling yet, there is no point in us explaining it to you. We can't teach you how to draw a picture either, if you have no idea about colors and shapes. --

When you create a box, click the edit tab and select how many line you want running up, down and across. As SinKing pointed out, tutorials need a presumed knowledge, if you dont understand anything I say (and they are laymen's terms, there really is no other way to explain it without creating a series of videos or in depth screenshots) then it is time to hit the books and maybe make something more simple first. A space ship? Try making a snail and see how well you are off. --
