Got a question about forums in mod and game profiles. In v3 mod teams could create forums just like the ModDB forums which would be shown in their mods profile. They could add boards, categories... the works.

Do you reckon the same functionality should be added in ModDB v4, or should we do something similar to Gamespot whereby all game / mod / engine profiles automatically have a forum which is just a single board for people to post threads in and game / mod / engine profile owners have an option to make the forum more "advanced" and customized if they please?

What do you reckon, automatically create 1 board forums, or let the profile owners add / customize their own forums?

i say let the owners decide... there is no point having a forum for a mod if no one post in it.

I say not to bother. In v3, they were rarely used, and v4 has just the same lack of need for them. If you want to discuss a project, they have comments pages. Same with games. If you want to discuss anything else, well, there are proper forums for that.

Forums and websites are cheap to run, if you've got a website (which btw is a REQUIREMENT by Moddb) then you should pretty much have the facilities to set up a forum too. Thats just assuming your not a tightarse who uses Free web hosting services :P which IMO are totally bullshit since they don't let you do anything.

If you are using a Free website then I doubt you need a forum.

The new way comments are set up negates the need for a forum, I think.

I think generally only smaller mods/addons or engines would want to use Moddb's forums, and they would probably not get enough interest for people to post on them, like Blck says the comments give a perfect chance to ask questions.

I think it would be a waste of your time for you to set it up.

Well either way, the new forum system is deployed: Moddb.com

Its much better in every regard than the v3 system, in that you actually have control over the forums from their layout to member permissions. Plus in future we want to make it so you can template the forums and add them to your own mods homepage, so it is essentially a non-lame free forum system (gotta be better than the others available right?)

I imagine that if people can insert the forums into there own websites then for people who cant afford good hosting it is great. Im sure these will help alot of people.

I am LOVING THIS !!!! Way better than v3 mod forums

Editing a post now gets me the message, and not just my forum post but any post:

The forum requested could not be found. It does not appear to be setup, we recommend you check out the sites forums for discussion.

sorry about the double post, but I can't really edit my post with this bug :P

That's the one I had before. Editing again a few seconds later works fine, however.

Just added a browse polls link so you can quickly and easily find active forums in profiles through-out the site. Should help with cross-promotion

Also fixed the EDIT POST bug, which you can see, since i have just edited this post
