Hello guys 'n gals!

I thought about making a new thread, where everyone can post their favorite and (to them) most inspriational art pieces. It would be cool, if we could present a n exposition here, rather than a link collection. Images can be related to any art-form: scuplting, drawing/sketching/scribbles, anatomy studies, painting, tapestry, tailoring, carpentry, welding, cartoon, manga, graphic novel.

I suggest we keep (industrial) design out of this collection, for now.

Here are my entries to get this started. I won't comment, but if you want you can.

Don't have a group to post atm, but nice little collection there SinKing! Some of my all time favorites and some I did not know at all - very cool.

Thanks Resin, this is just a shortlist that came up quite naturally as I went through my notes.

How do you mean a "group"? I don't have a group either ;). I upload the links to my Photobucket account and put the links on here. The thing is, I write down the names of artists and forget them otherwise. I thought it might be a good idea for any artist to have all the links in one place. I'll update this thread when I upload new pictures to my account.

Until then it would be interesting what are the influences other people draw upon. (hey a pun!) There is so much inspiring art and its just a few clicks away. Anyone who adds to this thread helps other people to expand their knowledge.

Gustav Mossa - had a hard time finding decent digital images, I saw an exhibit of his in person - he does so much interesting stuff such as gold-leafing and the pictures are actually quite small for the amount of detail he packs in.

Albrecht Durer - naturally

um - Giger - everyone likes him...
Maybe later I'll dig up some other artist pics I like - Earnst Haekel, Audobon, a whole lot of Japanese screen painters whose names I never remember....

Good start! The first one looks almost like watercolor.

I'm sure there are many famous artists, like Turner or Dürer, who find a place in this collection (like the lower pic= Dürer). However, I'm more looking for those artists that stood kinda out of the art-world's main focus. So you're touching the right chords here. Everything is interesting when it's well painted, sometimes we can learn more from works which are less well-known.

I would like to add two art-nouveau artists. So instead of Klimt, I chose to show Horta and Mucha. You are right - sometimes it's hard to find good pictures, but nonetheless, especially the works of Mucha are of stunning beauty. It's more a type of organic design than art, but I think this style has served well in illustrations of the past and is still resembled in things we like looking at today.

Horta painted too, but was more known for his original buildings and designs. Both artists designed everything from knife and fork to tables, doors, entire houses...well worth checking out some art books, as good prints are rare on the net.

I like this Haeckel stuff. Name rings a bell, but being German I guess it's not an uncommon name at all.

The drawings that most impressed me are from Adolph Mentzel, who was a very accurate but at the same time remarkably loose artist. His drawings often have incredible depth and variation of line. I just enjoy looking at them. Here is a gallery link for more figurative drawing.

Personally I like his technical illustrational drawing best. Unfortunately I didn't get across any proper image sizes. Check them out in artbooks or whatever better sources you may find. It's really worth it, if you're into drawing.

Can't fault your taste yet....

One nice thing about contemporary illustrators is that they often post their process, here's one I like, Cameron Stewart drawing Sin Tutulo:

Dang, I didn't even know you posted something new here! Keep em coming!

RESIN - do you know what software Stewart uses? Is that Sai Painttool, maybe? AH NOOO - it'S Photoshop??? How on earth does he get that much pressure sensitivity out of a Wacom and Photoshop? Even if I put it on the softest setting I don't nearly get that much "ink" out of a Brush. I'm using a Wacom Intuos Tablet.

I found another interesting artist. Agreed - it's a bit of a similar style to what I posted before, but I love these expressionist, vivid painting style. If they had computer games back then, he might have had some Monsters on there. I don't know if you know the concept artist Goodbrush, but somehow his (incredible) style is what I admire most of all current concept artists. There are those anal enough to spend months on a Matte painting that looks polished but lifeless. Goodbrush makes a few broad strokes and gives you an incredibly lively image with a story to it:

Anyway, here are my collected pics for now. If anybody knows where I can find info about storyboard artists and storyboard creation in general, please post a link (or twenty).

oh wow, I didnt know sinKing liked oil style paintings.

I love speed artl, I find that it conveys what the painter wanted it to convey, but leaves out detail that the viewer can then imagine.

currently, 2 of my favorite artists, are alexuss abd noah-kh from deviant art.

Aww you beat me to it SinKing haha. Sargent is one of my favorite artists and arguably one of the best portraitists of all time. I've actually heard he had a style where he would get multiple colors on different sides of his brush and in one brushstroke he could paint a wine glass with shading and everything. It's mind-blowing to think about really...

Madame X and El Jaleo are among my favorites of his.
