Hello

Fun fact... Ask someone what the oldest MMO game is they'll probably tell you its Meridian 59 but first released as 'Sniper' in 1995, Continuum/Subspace (an MMO space-themed shooter) predates Meridan 59 by a couple months...

Since sniper was actually an experiment to see if real-time MMO gameplay could work as it haddnt been done before, no trails had been yet blazed in marketing such products either. Initially Virgin Interactive Entertainment opted to retail copies of the boxed game and allow players to play online for free if they bought the game. Shortly after release though, VIE proposed to make online play require a monthly fee but the community rejected the idea. VIE moved to abandon the game but an agreement was made to allow the community to provide their own hosting for the server software and carry out our own support and development projects. Server software has been re-released as an open source software piece, similarly, the client software has been re-released (as continuum) as closed source freeware. Soon we will also have an open source client as well. Essentially this ship has been running on community steam for over a decade now.

Unlike games like EQ or WOW where attacking something is a command, Continuum plays like an arcade shooter which makes it very unique. There's no modern game like it. I stick around with this game for this reason... I've been a developer and or project manager for the continuum community for a decade this year actually. I've worked on my own additions to pre-existing mods for this game as well as coordinated the development of larger additions to the game. More recently I've recruited a team of devs and begun development of a brand new mod with big aspirations.

Obviously, the game is quite dated now and the gameplay (then revolutionary) is passable for 'casual gaming' or 'flash-game' gameplay at best today (still addictive and fast paced.. yet simplistic) Anyway, the development team I've founded has been working on a big project to give the game a new lease on life and add new features that come standard with most space-themed MMO games you see today. Essentially, we are converting the game into an MMORPG.

This means:

* Adding Items that you can buy/sell/equip when before there were none
* Adding an in-game graphical-user-interface when before there was none
* Adding custom GFX
* Adding new ship characteristics/stats that affect gameplay
* Custom server software
* Over 100x the content of pre-existing mods

Yes its a big project.

Having been underway for 6 months now though with cash bounties on projects being steadily claimed, we've made considerable progress and amassed a considerable development team already (Approx 15 contributors so far). The mod is still alpha stage, but we are 1 or 2 dev items away from a playable beta (yay ^_^)

I'll hear any offers but right now we're most interested in working with additional contributors who are familiar with some very basic python or C (We can teach you as well) and who would like to get paid to fulfill some outstanding dev items. COD

Right now we need to add some dynamics to allow for items to be 'droppable' as well as certain map elements (asteroids) to be 'mineable'. As mentioned, we have pre-existing server software (which interfaces with our newly added items database) so your role in this project is simply to add the trigger to update database info using Py or C

GFX artists, Foley artists, General admins - feel free to contact me anyway.. new dev items are constantly moved onto the slate so we should have something soon..

Thanks,

Found the game on wikipedia: En.wikipedia.org

The concept looks pretty neat (but is ~3 or 4 years late on the first MMO, but does first the definition of the first released mmo!: here)

But I'd say for a help wanted where you want people to do specific things, put together a list of stuff you want & post a help wanted add with that list.
