OK guys signed up to the forums because I've been playing with this idea in the back of my mind for a couple of years now. I've always craved a true survival game where gameplay is based solely on keeping yourself alive in a remote place e.g desert island, jungles etc.. I have looked for games and mods that already exist but to no success, the closest I have come is the stranded series but the graphics are a negative as I'm looking for a more realistic spin. I don't want guns and bad guys either and I want to feel alone. I'm thinking more castaway then anything, say you awaken washed up on a vast deserted island from a plane/boat wreck and have to gather everything you need to survive. Build shelters and equipment, hunt and forage for food, build fires for warmth and to cook. Also maybe items could wash up on the shore (yes like castaway) to reinforce your shelter. Maybe incorporate some sort of skills system so things are difficult to begin with but you can get better at such as hunting, map making (cartography?), medical needs. A deep medical system with infections, illnesses requiring rest.
The island should also be of a good size with areas of thick jungle to cut through, massive cave systems to explore, beautiful waterfalls and crashed aircraft or the remains of other survivors. The island should also be filled with dangerous prey from bears to spiders and snakes. A day and night cycle with a good weather system would also be needed making it difficult to survive the night without a decent enough shelter forcing you to bunker down in a dark caves.
I know that this would be a huge project and I'm just putting the ideas out there for peoples opinions, I'm not sure why it hasn't been explored already as I think I could be a great experience.
Does anyone think it would be possibe, if so what engine would be best for this?
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
