Another game has been announced that will be powered by an advanced version of VALVe's Source Engine. Not much has been shown yet (No screenshots, just a press release), but it will be the first fantasy-action game that will put the player into a first-person perspective, which sounds like a blast. Hopefully, it'll turn around this faltering series, and make it fun again. More information and media for the game will be shown for the first time at the Games Convention in Germany on August 17, 2005. I don't know how the hell Steam is taking over. There isn't any mention that the content will be distributed by Steam. Also, this is Ubisoft who will be publishing the game, which means EA isn't. They're just using a license of the engine, just like with the Unreal Engine or anything like that. Don't jump to conclusions. Just because they're using the Source engine doesn't mean Steam will be involved. Check the article yourself, fool. Once again... Publisher: Ubisoft I don't see EA in there anywhere. Do you? :/ -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

@ Dragonlord -
That's what I meant from my post. Of course, do you know of any other fantasy-action games that have only first-person perspective? And you can't list mods, because they're seperate entities. ^_^ -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

First person fantasy-action? Well, if Morrowind fits that title then Morrowind.. ^_^ In fact, all Bethesda RPGs and all Might and Magic RPGs are first person to my knowledge... Hmmm... Might and Magic.. Brings back memories.. |

WHOAWHOA!!! SEQUELS, SEQUELS!! w00t!! I thought the Might and Magic in the name was just a coincidence! The gaming industry is making sequels to nearly all my favourite games.. Edit: I hope they manage to get the atmosphere back from Might and Magic 6, 7 and 8. Those were great! Edited by: SEThorian |

I just saw this trailer for the game, and it looks like it's going to be a hell of a lot of fun. Not only does the switch to first-person view make the series a lot more intense, but everything seems to just come alive around you. Check it out. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

That's the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I have seen dozens of games that fall into this category. How about Hexen or Heretic? Hexen II? --

yeah, modern-day gaming media is stupid and dumb to even think about little trivial things being "revolutionary", like look at Halo 2, dual-wielding was done in Goldeneye, but not to them "OMG ITS REVOLUTIONARY PERFECT 100% SCORE BECAUSE ITS HALO!" -- < insert subject games here >

Well, if you would ignore that small mistake by Gamespot, check out the trailer at least. It looks like it'd be fun to play. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

You've not even taken a look at the trailer, despite the entire series being overhauled with both a new engine and a new developer. Why not just check out the trailer and see what it's like before blasting it? I think it's just plain ridiculous otherwise. You're giving up on it just because of what a news reporter said, which is contradicting your statements. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

That's because we're not easily entertained by what means "revolutionary" these days. -- < insert subject games here >

When did I say I was easily entertained? All I saw was that it was a Might & Magic game, something I've been playing for years, and I decided to check out the trailer. That is really all it comes down to, and I liked what I saw. It wasn't really the first-person view that drew it to me, but really that it was using a modified version of the Source version, which had me intrigued. It's not like I just started playing games, you know. I've been playing them since I was still in Kindergarten. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

That's the important bit. Arkane Studios made Arx Fatalis which is meant to be a rather good RPG and a spiritual sucessor to the Underworld games. Hopefully, they let a fair bit of that bleed over into this game. Or just use the funds from making a 'license game' to fund doing something Arx 2. And the whole 'revolutionary' thing, haven't you guys ever heard of marketing talk? Edited by: J1mmmy |

They probably mean the same as every other licensor who makes the same claim for every other engine. If you look at the combat, it seems to actually be physical items hitting each other and not the animations-with-hit-detection we've seen in the past. Which is awesome. |
