Two of these "I have lots of other things to do and I don't know  what I'm doing here...."-pics...
I did the first one a few hours ago....the second one is older~
...uhm....very...green-brown..O_o"...

And I've a question, too~
Is it allowed to post nude pics, if all important things are covered? May sound silly but...  :paranoid:

I am trying to get into the mood to come up with a slim sci-fi rogue-character and draw lots of armor suits, lately. I somehow like this concept beginning, even though I have to reject it for being too much Power-Ranger:

When you're building a power armor there are two ways to focus: realism or design. Usually the latter is the one that works best because power armor doesn't work well in real life. Come up with something cool looking and don't be afraid to bulk it up like hell, or to create something that would naturally require the wearer to have a BMI of 12,5.

Well, this is what I came up with in the end. Since the mod features classical architecture, It hought some citations of "classical" armor can't be bad. Still needs some work, but this is what it looks like, now. I hope more people will show their art here. It still ends in the "what are you working on" thread mostly.

Lol, pretty cool - I can see you are a huge fan of Alchemy ;)

That looks like a walking town. Pretty cool idea, I just think modellers will go insane over the concept. Do you have to think about the modeller when you draw, or do you just think about the concept?

yea someone is actually gonna try and model it so i was tryin to keep that in mind, but ill probably have to explain a few details to him and draw up a side view too. on this particular one i was just keeping the concept in mind and not too much on the modeler, i really wanted just a cool lookin robot but ill definitely have to keep the modeler in mind

I did finish this drawing but it got lost. I used it in a project for school but all the projects disapeared, including the finished version of this drawing.

Here is a concept of a little VTOL craft I've been playing around with, the R-15A Also known as the Bumblebee mainly used to transport medics around to hard accessed areas.

What's up? Nobody painting any more? PVT B. I like this aicraft, it looks like a cool blend if retro and modern- Pretty uniqe and a little steam-powered?!

I have been sketching the "CEO" for our film MECH OVERRIDE today and I think I'm getting close. It's one of those type of guys, who look ridiculous at a distance, but impose more and more fear the closer you get. One thing's for sure, this guy is going to be a heavyweight (not a champion).

Thanks Sinking =), yes indeed I did imagine it to be steam powered while I drew it.

I like the look of your CEO, it reminds me alot of how i imagined Humbert Prestel and the stereotype of a Class-A Pencillneck =P
( might ring a bell if you have read The Gone-Away World )

The neck does look a tad strange but great work :)

Jun 12 2009, 8:19am Anchor

The neck looks slightly strange because of the confusion with the angle of the head. Many of the typical fat guys with huge double chins don't usually look up, and hence we get the double chin happening and we're used to that angle. In this picture, his face is pointing above my head - outward and upward. The double chin / neck and the position of his face don't matchup, but it isn't too critical. If anything, i'd say that it's the size of the neckhole - the man is quite large, yet the neck hole is very small - this leads to a disjoint between the tux / suit and his head.

If you were looking for more of an imposing type of man, perhaps add a few wrinkle lines near his eyes - sometimes this gives the effect of someone looking somewhat cruel. Despite all of my criticism (which i only intend to help you =)), i think that your realism is quite good.  You have very good knowledge and take advantage of face defenition. Keep working at it, you'll get what you want eventually!

PS : It's only the white stripe on the helmet which makes me think of a power ranger. Think of bobba fet from star wars, his costume was somewhat similar. (Albeit, not functional. But gave the assasin-type look).

Yeah, I was really trying to have this guy's head ooze out of the neck hole of the shirt and I actually made the small hole on intention to increase that effect. Perhaps I'll redraw him with more detail and better care for detail, because his slobby double/triple chin, didn't come out so good. Think of a pig wearing a tight neck sweater and you get where I was trying to take this.
I try to paint something every day, but in the end I don't have that much time and I still can't organise my sessions right, so I end up spending a lot of time creating a certain part of a picture - mostly faces - and then just slob on the rest in half an hour. This is what I did today and it was just a fun idea I had, when I saw a photo of the women (you might recognise her) in a boulevard magazine. I'm sure my Thai-Take-Away is already suspecting me, because every time I'm there I secretly rip some images out of the great tabloids he has lying around. Fun!
thanks for the crits, you are very right Miyavii and I'm trying to improve by making speedpaintings every couple of days.

Your work is really professional, and I'm sure that you're a great asset to any team. How long do you generally spend on a speed paint? 30 minutes or so? Also, are you available for commisions? Sometime in the future I believe I'd like some art from you for my mod. Not anytime soon, though.

I might as well have a go.  I'm fairly new to drawing concept art and mostly all I've done are zombies and guns.  I have trouble doing anatomy especially.  I might take some classes if I have the time, but I doubt that.  Anyways, tell me what you think so I can improve.

Jun 13 2009, 1:55am Anchor

Well if you're new then its good.  First and foremost, learn anatomy, or at least get familiar with basic human and animal proportions. the neck, for example, is too long. try to learn perspective too :) its a biggie. The feet should be facing us, or one of them, unless its done purposfully.  keep it up thought :D

Hah, thanks Miyavii - that's a big compliment for me, because I only started "learning" art and color theory about 15 months ago, since my team was always desperately in need of concept artists and I only found very few reliable ones. I did draw when I was younger and always liked it, but it's just one of those talents that get washed away, when you grow older and work stupid stuff for a living.

I'm gonna redo my android in classcal 80's airbrush style, maybe later. I just wanted to get an impression on what I was trying to say with the picture, so I spend only 30 minutes on the robot body and it even looks like maybe 10 (I was tired). I spent about an hour on the face and 30 minutes on the armor, so it's not really a speedpainting any more. I do call everything speedpaint though, which I do on one or two layers and within a 2 hour range. A "real" painting would take up to a week, I guess, and I'll see if I can finish some environments for our film "Mech Override" n that way and put them online, later this year.

Since I'm very busy with a CGI-film I'm making with a great team, I cannot take any other work onto me for at least one more year.

CoachShogun20, we all have to start somewhere! And trust me, you starting with colour already is a pretty good job. Looks as though you have an eye for some proportions, so thats a plus as well. I'd look for some anatomy tutorials online at such places as deviantart.com, it's basically how i learnt everything i know. But i've since given art up, but even so i can give you a few pointers. First of all, we can setup a bit of shading on your zombie. Imagine that the zombie picture is pinned against a wall and the light is directly opposite it. This means that the shadows (Ie, where the light doesn't reach as well) will be around the edges of the zombie. So, if you want to give your picture a bit of a 3d aspect to it, select a darker color than where you're applying it, and trace the outsides. Depending on the strength of the light, the shadows will grow or decrease. If you can picture your image as 3 dimensional and set a light source, and follow that then you're well on the way to the basics of shadow defenition.

I'd suggest you just google some anatomy tutorials or go to DA(Deviantart) and learn from there. Thats what i did! Good luck with your work.

SinKing, that works out because it might be another year before the game is fully polished for release, haha =P

Simpler said - the areas closer to the light will be lighter, further away from the source will be darker. That goes for any light with the transition from white, yellow, orange to red color, if we're looking at most light sources. Lights these days turn out to be more white than yellow, though, so they have some cold blue colors rather than warm yellows (check your lightbulbs).
Lighting is very important, which is why some people prefer making a picture in shades of grey, just to determine, which areas receive more light and which ones are darker.

Thanks for the constructive criticism everyone.  I draw alot, but usually they're cartoony, so I can't really get away from that in my concepts.  I've been on DA before, and I'll certainly look up some tutorials there.  Once I improve a little, I'll put another up.

Same ole Woman, with a bit better proportions and small retouches to detail, like the eye(s) and neck:

I realized painting white stuff is really the hardest it gets and unfortunately she came out grey. Against a dark blackground she'd still look light, but to paint something white on white is near impossible, I think.

Very weird and abstract. It was originally 'normally' colored but I went with off tones instead.
Also was experimenting with photos and blending. Didn't turn out as I wanted it too, but its fine I guess.
