Hi, why not make this a sticky right away? There are so many people on Moddb, who are really good at digital painting and we never get to see their work. Mostly it gets buried in the Work in Progress-Thread, which deals much more with 3D than with 2D art. A lot of pictures, which were posted there should be uploaded to this thread, in order to start a new ressource for pretty pics and discussion about art and stlye on Moddb. I know there are many painters around and they often prefer a solitary surfer style, but if they keep their art to themselves it's going wasted. So please, fill this thread with new art, old art, beautiful pictures which you either own or give credit for to the creator. You can also digg into your development documents and, if you have a particularly interesting piece of development (e.g. from concept to finished mesh), you can show us how you did it. |

Hooray! someone posted something. I want to post something too, now. I keep forgetting about the threads I make, even when they seem to make sense. Youur concept is very green and a little over-saturated. You have a good understanding of color, but not yet of light (bouncelight). I recommend learning color theory next. Looks vgood though, proportions are nearly right. I'd learn about vanishing points and light/color theory, if I were you. The back of his helmet with the blades looks strange. And for the fun. Here's a quick sketch I did when training value drawing.

get a photobucket account, scan your concepts and upload them there. Then post the image link right in the thread you're writing. Edited by: SinKing |

nice work man- dig the look! im trying to get that traditional painted look that you got goin with the speedpainting. i was really really bad at thumbnailing, but im getting a lil better using a program called alchemy, you heard? if you havn't you should definately go download it, its totally free and pretty fun to use |

No, I don't know Alchemy. I have read it in forum places, but didn't know it was free. When I google for it I get lots of links concerning audio. Can you perhaps send, or post, me a link? I think I could really use that as I'm using a shape approach at the moment to create our letters for the logo. It's really a pain doing it over and over and I wonder how Alchemy could help me with the blocking out. Would be interesting anyway. I paint the grumpy king, and almost everything else, in Sketchbook. I usually use Photoshop only to create logos or if I want to finish something with lighting and texture. I really like Sketchbook, because it feels more like the natural painting on canvas. Do you also use Painter? I have read about artists using it for the realistic brushes and for etching/scratching. The results were quite stunning, but I don't want to get into too many software. If someone tells me it'S an absolute must, though, I will also try learning painter. I have a knack on medieval concepts at the moment, everything from the 14th to 17th century interests me. Maybe it's the highly saturated colors and interesting lighting in paintings from the time. If you want to learn more color theory, those centuries are great to get an understanding. I'm just painting for fun, though I intend to get better. Speedpainting is usually highly saturated, I think I'm somewhere inbetween painting and speed-painting. I really need to move on to the next step, now and get a better grip on lighting and bump lights. Edited by: SinKing |

Your sig is too large and the guy has flying ears, but the angle and expression are pretty cool. Looks like Manga, so are you rendering him two-shaded? I worked on our logo, getting somewhere, but I have to take out some letter, probably even the skull (though I like that idea). Tell me what you think about it and about which letters have to change. I need feedback. Working with black shapes and FX only here: Edited by: SinKing |

nah i dont use painter but i really wanna sometime in the future heh. im just using photoshop at the moment, trying to adjust to the program. one of my old classmates uses painter, she gets some pretty cool results. i think if you enjoy a more traditional look to your artwork, then painter is definately the way to go. |

Wow kick zombies, really nice outline and really cool head. So this a concept for a Manga-type character model (head)? I can imagine that would work nicely inside a similarly painted environment. I painted this one from a photo of a bust. Slowly I'm making progress with my workflow and currently use Sketchbook to outline, thumbnail, Photoshop for the basic painting and finalise it with Corel Painter (which I just used the first time, here). I think there is a lot to learn still, especially about not doing "too much". I feel confident about my style and going with it, though. Time for action! Edited by: SinKing |
