I am a Level designer, i have developed 3 games on fpsc and i feel i
need to advance my skills unto something more.... advanced. I have
decided to move onto UDK as my new base engine. Before i have tried to
advance my skills but have failed, with this.. i will not. So i will
gostrait to the point of my idea. My desires are top make a med-high
quality first person shooter with new features, ways to play, game
elements, and tools that makes it stand out, and dominate the indie
first person shooter community.
Here is my template:

  1. Main ideas:
  • Build a weapon from scratch: Take a weapon (such as the M4) and start
    with only the recievers and build a weapon; from sights, barrel,
    magazine type, gears, stock, and attachments, all being bought with
    money earned from battles (singleplayer and multiplayer). Each new
    attachment or weapon part affects weapon weight, and stats. (range,
    accuracy, turn speed[labeled mobility], Weapon length, recoil, and modifiers).
  • Projectile bullets: Bullets that drop after a certain amount of range
    (effected by wind also) and bullets that bounce off walls at certain
    angles and ricochet.
  • Cover system: a cover system that actually aids in battle allowing slide into cover, diving under tables, creating cover (such as flipping tables or opening a car door)

2. Wants:

  • Fully modeled building with interiors: if you can see it, you can go there (probably not gonna happen, but i still want to try)
  • Full DLC Support
  • Full modding support (if possible for user created maps, definitely going to try this)
  • thousands of unique possibilities with each weapon.
  • upgradable weapons bank to store your made weapons at.
  • xp, money and points system (money for buying weapon upgrades parts or attachments, points for buying character perks, upgrades or tags[ essentially a cod callsign but customizable and placed on your character)
  • character editor
  • Huge maps with vehicles and small run and gun maps
  • controlable drones and auto drones (bot controlled).
  • HDR, faint bloom, filmgrain effects.
  • slight destructible environment.
  • grenade craters (when and explosion happens leaves a crater in the ground)
  • night vision goggles
  • plus more.....

If it sounds any good. please post. and i also will need help, as i am only a level designer. But this is my concept and i am open to ideas and advise. i will update with more ideas and concepts tomorrow.

Everything is possible except for the Grenade Craters, just because of the fact that you would essentially have to create a map that has a completely destructible terrain. So, creating a game that uses, Money and XP can not include Mods or Custom Maps because players will exploit the systems and use maps/mods that will quickly let them acquire either.

Also if you were to do the buildings with interiors that would be a lot of playing space which would mean you would have to have a LOT of players or its gonna be really boring.

Ahh... thank you you reminded me what i have forgotten to post.

  • 64 player max
  • Only modding allowed would be Unranked user made maps (like in Far Cry) so players cannot exploit the xp and money and Possibly user made content (such as gun or player models)
  • Very faint post Processing that is realistic but performance based.
  • interiors if possible wont be crammed with hi-poly models, more open and very few physics objects.

yeah maybe the Grenade craters was a little Too ambitious.... although maybe it could work if the grenade would actually delete polys from the terrain and under the terrain would be a fractured dirt mesh? oh well that wasn't the main idea so i wont fight for it if its going to make the game insanely hard to design. Mainly i want the design a gun feature. i want the entire game to revolve around it. Also i have a few more concepts and ideas too add:

  • Unranked games Can use dedicated servers.
  • four factions collide mode (where four different teams are all against eachother)

You can make seperate parts of the game, one that can use mods and one that can not, like Dungeon Defenders did. If you haven't played Dungeon Defenders: There is "Ranked" mode, which is 'official' without mods or custom maps, and "Open" mode, which does allow mods and custom maps. You can also export your character from Ranked mode to Open mode, but not the other way around.

EDIT: I did not see harvey_soft had already posted again, so this post might seem a little irrelevant now.

No actually thats very relevant, i never even thought of exporting. maybe exporting weapons to unranked mode? Also just thought of a new idea:

  • players that are super good could compete with eachother with unlimited levels (using an equation that makes every level maybe 5% harder to obtain.)

Sounds interesting, I like the idea of creating your own weapons with their advantages and disadvantages. I've been looking for a cool First Person Shooter with actual cover mechanics, for quite some time. This game may just be that.

Yeah but dont expect it anytime soon, or even any early concept screens, since currently im a lone developer. I also have the character enhancements almost all thought up and i will post it up here later or tomorrow. I have also been thinking about optional traits like in the orig. Fallout's.

Here is a early perks layering. it needs some work.

1. Perks
A. Weapon perks (AKA Modifiers)
I. Weapon kick - reduce weapon kick by 25%
II. Synthetic Stock(needs a new name) - reduce Weapon weight by 10%
III. Weapons handling - reduces weapon jam chance
Iv. Super Breath (snipers only) - increases breath hold by 15 seconds
V. Wet gun - accuraccy not affected by being wet (swimming or getting a gun wet will lessen accuracy without this)
VI."Unjectile" bullets (LMG only) - bullets no longer have bullet drop
VII. Armor peircing bullets - makes body armor, and vehicles vulnerable to bullets.
VIII. Zip (SMG only) - double fire rate
IX. Turkey Choke-Tube (shotguns only) - decrease Shot spread
X. Master rifleman (assault rifles only) - 25% weapon spread when not looking down sights.

B. Optional traits (FALLOUT BABY!)
I. Power Package - your bullets pack more punch (20% more damage) but they wont go though surfaces now.
II. Strong man - you can carry two primarys, but move 10% slower.
III. Mad Bomber - explosives do 50% more damage and 25% more range, but bullets only do half damage.

C. Player Perks A (Modifiers)
I. Speed reloader - Amunition pouches are located on the chest making a faster reload.
II. Sniper - Increased Bullet range (rang)
III. Irons - Faster A.D.S.
IV. Secret agent - no Movement sound (except environment additions such as running through a bush)

D. Player Perks B (Enhancements)
I. Nameless - the red crosshairs and name above your head doesnt show up to enemies anymore.
II. Mad Skillz - All weapon traits increased by 5% (Mad skillz pro gives 5% to modifiers also*)
III. Behind the lines - able to change into enemy uniforms (by taking them off dead players)
IV. X-ray vision - changes night vision goggles to thermal goggles

E. Player Perks C (Equitment)
I. Sword - Longer range melee attacks (regardless of the melee weapon) and 50% damage(affected by player) decrese from blunt melee attacks.
II. Blaster - double the ammount of equitment (grenades, c4, claymores ect...)
III. SWAT - double special equitment (flashbangs, ninebangers, Smoke, rubber grenades)
IV. Techno soldier - (experimental stuff im sure) all players (allied and enemy) with a 5+ killstreak's silouet is outlined in neon.

F. Factions additions.
I. Alpha faction** (arabic) - 5% accuracy addition to bare weapons***, 10% sprinting increase.
II. Bravo Faction** (USA) - 5% reciol reduction to all american guns, 10% increase to all stats when in groups of 5 or more.
III. Charlie Faction** (Spys) - 5% accuracy increase to all silenced guns, stealth suit (once again expirmental, a cloaking suit that clones the backround of the wearer, will be in the perks A group.)
IV. Delta Faction** (Russians) - 5% melee damage incrase, 10% damage resistance.
V. possibly more.

* - Pro perks only availible in unranked.
** - Faction names not thought up yet.
*** - bare weapons are weapons without camos or attatchments.
