Hi everyone. I'm new here and just starting out with game programming. I had to make asteroids for a class, and before I submit it, I was hoping I could get some feed back.
I'm sure no one here is eager to play yet another version of asteroids, but I did some stuff with the backgrounds and effects that, I think, make it somewhat worth while.

Any comments would be appreciated!

You can download it on the front page of my website: billybasso.com

Also, here's some screenshots:

I'll ask about the graphics!

How did you make those effects in the first few stages? Were they a bunch of repeated objects that started rotating at different times?

Yeah, basically! The backgrounds are way simpler than they look. I just took a grid of rotating cubes, spaced them close enough to clip through each other, then just adjusted the spacing, rate of rotation, and colors to make the wide variety of different patterns. They all start at the same time, and rotate at the same speed.

That's really clever, and it turns out really nicely! I think I'll try a 2D analogue of that for a game I'm working on. Thanks for the idea!

Nice start, Billy.

I would say, in the first one you need either the hue, saturation, or brightness to contrast a little more with the background.

And good luck on your future classes!
