Hello!

My name is Michael and I am the co-founder of LCQ Studios. LCQ Studios was created from a group of players from the MX Simulator community wanting to create a more intimate motocross game. Since our founding, we have grown to nine members on our development team; eight of which are credible artists. They range from professionals having worked in the game industry to hobbyist creating content for MX Simulator and MX Bikes. That means we would very much like to pick up another programmer since it is a lot for one person to take on.

About Our Project

In late 2015 I started to create a motocross game by myself. There were no plans for it to go anywhere as I only wanted to see if I could program a motorcycle in Unity. I showed it on the MX Simulator forums and some people took interest in it and wanted to make something more of it. We quickly came up with ideas since almost every motocross game to date has not delivered what they should or what the fans want, so that's where we are trying to come in. Over the last two years or so I have programmed a solid base physics system that feels kind of arcade-y, but we have decided that we want to take it to the next level.

We have a ton of plans that can be viewed on our website, but I'll outline some of the main ones. Almost every motocross game is centered around the professional racing whether it be supercross, motocross or the gp's over in Europe. We want to change the way motocross is portrayed to the general public by showing the amateur point of view in the United States. Racing competitively as an amateur is extremely difficult because of the cost, intensive training and emotional challenges. We want to put these on display as an emotional journey leading up to the pro ranks.... or not. Players will start out on 50cc, the smallest bike class, and work their way to 85's, 125's, 250's and 450's throughout each season. You can do well and earn factory support, or not do so well and sacrifice everything just to get to the next race. While we're stoked to start working on the career our main focus is innovating in the motocross game genre. When you fall or crash while riding a dirt bike, you aren't just allowed to respawn. You have to get up, run back to your bike and climb back on. We want to do this in our game adding a risk and reward factor. Players will have to ride smart and not send it over everything just because it is a video game. They will have to develop skill and patients to get better at the game. We also want to make the terrain come to life. Bikes will make ruts and bumps on the track just like in real life motocross. The ruts and bumps will affect how the player navigates the track; allowing them to grab a rut to get through a corner or swapping down a straight-a-way.

A good representation of what we are trying to create can be found in this video, although, it is older.

We have an extremely talented art department from professional 3D modelers to professional environment artists. Here are some of our assets that are currently public for anyone to view.

Job Description

If you have read this far then you may be interested in this project. I should first say that this project is not paid. Of course, when we start gaining revenue, a percentage of the profit will go to each member of the team in case you were worried about that. Each of us on the team right now are working on this as a hobby in our free time. We all want to create the best motocross game to date and innovate in this niche market. Although, our project may be huge in scope, we all feel in our hearts that we can provide what we say we will and be competitive with the bigger studios creating these mediocre motocross games. We want to change direction with the feel of the game now, though. Instead of it being more arcade feeling, we want to make it more of a simulation game. We are using Unity3D with C# to write our physics. Applicants should feel comfortable researching real world physics and applying them in code. I have a lot going on right now even though I am home from school for the summer. Doing all of the coding on my own has been extremely challenging so I'd like to have a helping hand, because things are moving slower on the programming end than I'd like it to. If you're wondering about my skills.... they aren't great but I always find a way to make it work. I am a 3rd year game programming major at a credible school so I'm not incredibly awful. Some experience would be nice so our game can play well and I could learn a little from you as a bonus. We'd like the applicant to be able to work at least 5-10 hours on the game per week, as we know that your outside life takes precedence over a hobby project.

Job Requirements

  • Intermediate knowledge of C# and object oriented programming
  • Basic mathematics skills
  • Able to model real world physics within the game engine
  • A passionate, go-get-em attitude for your work
  • Enthusiasm for the project itself
  • Ability to work well with others, especially over the internet

Some bonus skills that aren't required...

  • Familiarity with the Unity3D engine
  • Familiarity with motocross

Conclusion

A new programmer at LCQ Studios would be a blessing as that is the smallest department we have at 1 person. It would be awesome to have you on board and creating new and innovative things as we indies always do. If you have any interest at all, please shoot us an email at lcqstudios@gmail.com with your portfolio and a brief description of why you think you'd be a good fit in our development team. Obviously, this is an extremely niche market, but there is a gigantic opportunity for us all to get our names out there. Thank you for taking the time to read this, we appreciate it very much.
