For a few weeks I have been writing a concept for a RTS/FPS with possible MMORPG application.  This is a war game that  will feature the Vietnam War from 1965-73 and it will focus primarily on Anti-Communits Forces, ARVN and US, Army, Marines, and Air Force.  The idea is to create a vast warzone that the player an participate in, as a Trooper, Pilot, or Tank Commander.  A chain of command dictates Unit movement and placement, players will receive orders from superior officers, movement and deployment orders will take the players across the country of Vietnam to various locations.  When the player has scored a significant level of points he may progress thru the ranks, and eventually command forces of his own, becoming responsible for movement orders assigned to his battalion or regiment. The war is won by capturing the entire country, this is done by moving to Territories and capturing them with superior forces.  To move the Units to fight, a commanding officer will have to create a mission.  NPCs Begin as the Cummanders of the forces, and will follow the historical progression of the Vietnam War to its end.  I am still working on this concept and piecing together all the elements to create the main idea.

MISSION CREATION
In order to facilitate the capturing of territories, Units must be dispersed across the country.  Battalions are charged with the majority of deployment.  To do so, the Commander will receive orders to move to a location, from the Supreme Commander.  He will create a mission and using what Units he has available, and will set up the mission in the Creator. The Creator can only be used if orders are given, and the Creator will only allow movement in the affiliated area of the country.
The Commander will fill out the Creator parameters and commence the mission when finished.  Every Unit involved in the mission will fulfill their individual task.

Forty seven US troops open fire into the jungle in an attempt to support the pinned US squad,

A large VC company begins to advance from all vectors out of the jungle toward Du Huk.
VC mortar fire begins falling into Du Huk, six US troops are killed by mortar fire, one US trooper is wounded by indirect fire, four M34s are rendered inoperable, nine civilian casualties.
The US squad is lost, unknown killed and wounded, they are cut off.
UH-1s are requested by US field commander for emergence extraction.
Six UH-1s are inbound from Man Toe, 5.3 miles away, estimated time of arrival is 10 minutes.
US troops are killed by gunfire, six US troopers are wounded by indirect fire, four civilian casualties.
Six Uh-1s arrive at Du Huk, two UH-1s begin sweeping patterns to clear the perimeter for extraction of US troops in Du Huk.
One UH-1 is damaged by gunfire and is forced to return to base, one US trooper is wounded by indirect fire.
Four UH-1s land to extract the US troops from Du Huk.
With the support of the UH-1s, US troops are able to recover the lost US squad.
Fifty five US troops board the four UH-1s,
Five UH-1s depart Du Huk and head for Man Toe.
One UH-1 is shot down and destroyed by VC gunfire, twelve US troopers and four crewmen are lost.

DEATH
Each character has a small amount of health, about enough to take a couple of direct gunshots with out dying immediately.  Soldiers are fitted with equipment that offers amounts of protection but not enough, in any combination, to offer significant resistance to damage.  All damage that does not kill the character will deplete their health to whatever degree of damage is incurred and begin a bleedout process that pends on the area of the wound and the scale of the damage.  A gunshot will most assuredly bring down any character even in one hit, but will not always kill them, it wounds them to a degree.  Sometimes the character can still fight back with a sidearm or grenade, or crawl away, but any action or movement that is associated with the damage is restricted and will result in cries of agony from the character upon attempt of the action, so it is imperative to restrict the movement when shot down or you will become an easy target, also movement in general will increase the bleedout rate.  The character can still look about, and use voice commands.  When wounded the character might be able use a Medkit to repair to a certain point, or at least halt the bleadout process but if the damage is too severe  there is nothing to do, only a medic has a chance to revive the character.  Wounded comrades can be carried or dragged depending on their weight and the weight of the carrying character, this why gear can be jettisoned, if the group is overweight, they have to drag or jettison.  Two men can drag one if needed.  Helicopters are used to load incapacitated bodies out of the battlezone.  This process is handled solely by NPC/BOTs.  Explosive damage is generally concussive in nature, throwing aside what is in the area.  Different areas of blast result differently.  The closer to the center the more damage in incurred especially if there is dense shrapnel.  Since everything is fully destructible, bodies can fragment from explosive damage.  This effect is restricted to high explosive and direct blasts from explosives and certain gunshots delivered to the bone and or joint.  All charters have vital points in the body.  The head and torso are full of vital points that result in immediate death.  Lesser vital points are sweet for bleedouts as they mimmic major blood vessels and span the whole body.  These points are of all shapes and sizes to encompass their intended area of weakness.

I agree at this point.  I have not been able to find a way to incorporate the MMO element seamlessly.  This idea starteted as a Vietnam flight simulator,  but when i decided to have spontaneous ground battles to add flavor, it became clear that i would need to go deeper. But the problem is to create a realistic experience with a great flow in the gameplay, especially in this misunderstood war. For now, i am doing allot of research on the Vietnam war, so i can have as much historical accuracy as possible, especially when the NPC commanders build missions and operations.  I want the player to learn something about the Vietnam War while they enjoy playing the game, so this accuracy very important.  The gameplay elements will be difficult to organize since there is no determined beginning or end to any one mission yet.

FIREARMS
