Bioshock... | Locked | |

Bioshock is an epic game, but I felt it was much too short. Why is it that this beautiful game had to be so pitifully straightforward. No spoilers here, but the good ending made me say to myself...." I just beat this in 7 hours. Why couldn't it be longer? I am rewarded with a 3 minute long cutscene? And while the game is fun to replay again, there should have been an option to disable diaries. I found all the secrets, the easter eggs, and beat the game on the 3rd difficulty setting my first time through. What gives? A masterpiece to me- but a really short one. Anyone agree? -- Got off my ass and did something today. I quit. |

SPOILER WARNING I didn't play Bioshock until the end. It was definitely a true masterpiece, but I think the game really want downhill after you killed Ryan. The storytelling was one of its great strengths, and because you lost the main antgonist/person directing the action at that point, it just didn't come across as well in the second half of the game, and I didn't think there was much to really compel me to continue playing. Also, because you had most of the Plasmids etc at that point, the gameplay really started to become samey (an area I think HL2 addressed well, and games like Doom 3 and Quake 4 failed miserably at). Nontheless, it was definitely well written and the AI was fantastic. Given how quickly the game was knocked up (the entire story was re-written and re-voiced only months before it went Gold), it deserves every bit of praise that it gets. |

I also thought it was too short. But it had quite a bit of replay value. I don't mind short games that much, I kind of like knowing that I found everything there is to find as well. |

The main problem I had with BioShock it that the main twist of the game is, itself, a play on videogame conventions. Then when it breaks you free of those conventions by having you kill Ryan, suddenly, everything fails to change. You're still doing the same meaningless running around, following orders, just now more aware of that fact. I stopped playing an hour or two after that. This article put it into words far better than I could. |

Finally got around to playing and beating BioShock. One of the BEST FPS games I've ever played. I think the story is perhaps one of the most engaging parts of the game. I love all of it, especially the ending. I did the good ending after saving all the Little Sisters, and it was really touching how things ended up. Very enjoyable, and I left the game feeling quite satisfied with the entire experience. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

I played the PC one and I gotta say. If you're an casual gamer. It's your game. If you're me, it's horrible. Many small details they could have done were not done Pointless ammo types (fire and eletric shells, why not High explosive and Slug rounds? They're realistic and alot more interesting) Thompson has 3 bolts it seems like (the bolts that slide back) Thompson hold 45 bullets not 50, it also fires very very slow I would forgive this (because it is damaged) but it's even slower than the pistol. There's a sound bug where that guy is supposed to tell you to take that first drug (I forgot what they were called). So it makes Jack look like a druggy. (He's supposed to tell you to take it but he doesn't) Overall, I think it could have been fun but it was potential gone to waste. At least for me, glad you guys are enjoying it tho. I admit I LOVED the story. |

I'm ever so sorry it didn't cater to all your requirements of 'realism' |

pointless ammo types? if you read the description...no better, use them you will see that they are quite usefull bioshock is not a bad game but i think system shock 2 is better and more fun to play (we cant leave SS2 out of the bioshock discussion imo :p) -- °w° |

Who ever said realism? I said Little Details and such. Those thompson things I would have forgiven. Like, why have fish models flappin around if I can't even kill em? (or eat em) Half-life had those kinda details. This game also could have used a Inventory system. Now THAT would be good. So over all, it's a good game, I just wish they added more small details. Yes I did use those ammo types. But here's how I see it, you have the plasmids. If you don't have them. OH WELL! So i'll say it again. Good game, alot of small details and such for me atleast. Add up. (Trust me, I don't care for HL2 also, it's not just Bioshock.) |

Yet again you misread me. I said LITTLE DETAILS. Not just fish but LITTLE DETAILS! Half life (and it's exp packs OP4 and Blue shift) had ALOT OF THEM. |

i liked SS2's researching system, how you had to stop by chemical stockrooms. a little more interesting than Bioshock's TAKE A BUNCH OF PHOTOS AND THEN ITS LIKE AUTOMATICALLY FULLY RESEARCHED it's also disappointing that the console versions don't let you disable the object glow. don't hold my hand through the game D:
that was one of the two things i critiqued first time in. it was weird that you'd just walk up to something and inject yourself with it. that, and the way the physics seemed kind of... odd. great environments, though. Edited by: frosty-theaussie --

Maybe people should first define what they tie to the term "RPG". If you simply means that it has a story... great for you... it works with BS ( anyone noticed that Bioshock abbreviation means bullshit? ) but RPG means "role play game" hence that you play a role and this means that you can "alter" the role you play to some degree. I don't consider buying skills that much of altering the role you play. |

That's why I didn't really like Bioshock. :> -- |
