It was one of the last FPS shooters before Q2 and 3D rendering. One of my all time favorites. I was thinking of redoing it using a Q3 engine as my next project.

That would be a good idea for Blood fans. There are some members here like Cheapalert who love that game.

I've never played or even seen the game, but I'm sure somebody posted remaking this game for HL2 on one of the forums I visit, might have been hl2world.com but I dunno, maybe you guys can join forces....

It's been done already. The engine used is Darkplaces which is more capable than what Q3A can do.

Transfusion-game.com

Not too long ago someone had a "OOH LETS REMAKE BLOOD IN SOURCE!" idea which was farfetched.

I will disagree with you as to the capabilities of Darkplaces engine versus a Q3 variant. It renders some nice effects but does not handle a lot of polys well and texture size is still limited. But, I do appreciate the link, DLing it now. Damn, the whole thing is only 50 meg. My mods always run over 300 meg.

Update:

"Transfusion" would definitely benefit from some Q3 quality maps and textures. But aside from that, it's very well done.

I'd say you will expect an engine modification along the lines of Darkplaces for Quake 3, and a lot of people will move to that, so don't get all buggered out if that one can't handle everything. It still looks damn cool, nonetheless.

Blood was a pretty nice game, but I don't think it should be remade. You might ruin it that way :S

1. the darkplaces build that comes with transfusion is rather old actually, and it still does rock

2. There is no texture size limit in DP.

3. DP supports more polys than what Q3A could. Q3A would just die on a mesh with more than 1024 vertices and get bombed to the console.

4. Q3A is TOO BRIGHT. It perhaps would kill Blood's atmosphere.

Considering it doesn't work at all on Win2k and up, it should be remade, and also Monolith isn't with Atari anymore so don't expect an official sequel to come ever at all.

Blood 2 sucks and it's a disgrace to the series imo. It doesn't even work well on modern computers either.

When I said a Q3 variant, I was thinking more of RTCW:ET or MOHAA, or CoD. Anyway, the version of Darkplaces I looked at is rather old, so if it's as good as you say it is, I'll check it out again. I'm still looking for an engine to replace Q3 for my Mayhem game.

I agree, Blood 2 sucked. A huge disappointment.

I'm glad someone is doing this so I don't have to. I have plenty of other mod ideas to work on. I just thought Blood really deserved to be redone. How about an Alone in the Dark remake?

Alone In The Dark 4. It was pretty crap. And the movie was made by Uwe Boll.

How could I not remember one of the games made by my favourite game developer!? I loved this game! Especially the original game.

Good luck with this project m8.
Though, I personally think that this would work better on a darker engine, like Doom 3, or F.E.A.R. (The advantage of this is that F.E.A.R. also made by Monolith, so you probably would not run into copyright issues with them if you chose this engine).

I'd love to do a mod using the D3 engine, but unfortunately, nobody plays the game. I've never heard of the FEAR engine. What game uses it?

F.E.A.R. does ;)

Here ya go: Pc.gamespy.com

That engine should be perfect for a Blood remake. It's got awesome graphics, it's being made by Monolith (makers of Blood), and it has very nice gore effects.. Perfect!
