Hi im new here

i have never made a mod in my life . although i did read a book about modding once " How to mod Hl2 for dummies " so i do know a little bit about how to make levels . anyway i was wondering do you think that it would work if i would make a mod based on a novel im writing . it is a scifi story about a boxer who is called Justen .you see Justen
has big dreams he wants to become the best boxer in the world but life
isn't so generous to him in fact i would say life has screwed him very
bad . he is always broke, he is always flunking in school ,he lives
alone , his girl friend dumped him .and he is a lousy boxer .oh but
don't worry life will get better for him . i wont spoil the story for
you but he is going to get something that's going to change his entire
life something that rhymes with super powers ! lol

i would post a link to my story but the site wont let me . thinks im a spam bot . but if you would go to fictionpress.com and search for " Justen the boxer " im sure you would find it . or you can search for my profile there " sexypizza "

now the mod doesn't have to be for HL2 it can be for any game  . and im thinking maybe it doesn't have to be all about fighting and stuff but maybe a more story oriented approach instead  since its based on a novel and all besides i think if there is fighting Justen would be way overpowered.i know my writing isnt the best but hey we all got to start somewhere and i always wanted to make a mod based on one of my stories because i intend to be a game designer someday and i really just want to see my ideas come to life . so what do you think . would it work ? should i post my idea in the recruting section to get a team to work on it ? do you think they would recruit me ? would you recruit me ?

would it work ?  It could work, i mean theres nothing to say that it won't work but as you know alot of mods die but if there is a good team, a passion, a good leader to organize things the chance of it working and becoming a mod rises.

should i post my idea in the recruiting section to get a team to work on it ? No you shouldn't try to get a team to work on it, just yet. Because if this mod will ever be made it needs to enter 'Alpha Stage' first which is basically a design brief explaining the whole storyline (which you already have), some concept art/models, gameplay description and some other things.(I think there is a tutorial on MODDB that says how to make a good 'Alpha stage' document

do you think they would recruit me?  Because this mod is purely your idea you'd probably be the leader of the Mod so it is more of a question if people would accept your recruitment, personally i doubt anyone would accept you at the moment because they wouldn't be sure of what you would do apart from being the leader. The leader of the mod usually needs to be doing some lead work (programming, modelling...) so they get more respect from the team and so they don't seem like a lazy person that just bosses people around.

would you recruit me?  Personally i would not recruit you at all, but if you found out how to do some skill (level design, 2d modelling, scripting etc.) even something as simple as beta testing (not just being one of those slacker beta testers who don't even review the game) then i would recruit you.

P.S. i found some good websites and tutorials for making a succesful project
Moddb.com

Choose a part of modding that you would like to do, pick a program out of this list and find tutorials on how to use it

sorry if i didn't tell you what you wanted to hear but it is the truth and better you find out the now then doing everything wrong later.

Welcome to ModDB, Sexypizza! :) As far as I remember "How to mod HL2 for dummies" (read it myself) the book already pointed to the direction every aspiring modder should take: TRY OUT and TRY OUT etc, not minding the ocassional ERRORS and FAILS in between... ;) If you already have a story and an atmosphere in mind try to build a small concept map using the HL2 content or if this won`t come close to your vision try to create some new textures or even models - even if their quality may not be topnotch at the beginning. Screenshots of your concept map may awaken the interest of other modders to help you and gradually you may build a team which can help you to realise your ideas (and in the meantime you are able to refine your own skills to show everyone who is interested to join your mod that you are willing to contribute everything you can to the project)... ;)

sound insteresting... yet, for me it seems like some kind of Tennessee Williams goes Half-life.

But, KEEP IT UP! I like it :D

Everyone starts at the bottom man. Keep writing and training your skills. There are many useful tutorials around on learning a skill. Pick one your good at and go with it.

Best of luck.
