Copying UT with Quake engine?
I do not recommend this idea:
- Epic's lawyers would jackhammer
- CliffyB finds Quake engines as his rival at heart
- Unreal physics could not be recreated
- You will not have intelligent bots to play every game type let alone any bots that would play nice with the DS processor
- You will find it hard to recreate 'dodging'
- What's Unreal without colored lighting and procedural texturing?
- Make something original. Originality is hard to come by if you're part of a console-bred scene ravaged by younguns who want to show off 'cool game x' from one platform to their ghetto PSP at a grade school. I can only name one original PSP Quake game right now and it's Bulletz. It's underrated since it's not based on any well-known IP.

The person who doesn't like anything.
I can tell. Not everything good has to be original the game itself isnt original along with the half a dozen tatical shooter mods made like counterstrike. and how come that solitude project isnt having any copyright issues when they are plainly ripping halo straight out appart from a slighty altered story line
I personally think you could addapt the quake engineto work like unreal but who am i to judge. Oh and bulletz doesnt seem that original to me. I recreate the models maps and the rest myself so ididnt think there would be copyright infringement as im not selling it

- You will find it hard to recreate 'dodging'
yes but it itsnt especially needed

- Unreal physics could not be recreated
explain why i dnt really know much about programming

- You will not have intelligent bots to play every game type let alone any bots that would play nice with the DS processor
I guess itl be psp then :D or work on botting when or if i get there. if i could pull off unreal tornament on the ds it would be so much better for gameplay.

Portal? psp

- What's Unreal without colored lighting and procedural texturing?
a quake port of unreal xD. is thereabsolutley nocoloured lighting in quake?

- Make something original.
Idn own one and im not a hard core nfs prostreet cod4 gta sandreas guy
i get the good stuff like abes oldworld and exodus, unreal tornament GOTY, Monkey Islands

Im not trying to have a rant i just would really like to make this happen and enjoy modding

Because the Halo IP is open for use under certain restrictions. The UT one is not. I don't believe there is coloured lighting in Quake, I believe that was introduced in Quake 2.

Your main catch is that you don't know much about programming; this is going to largely be a programming intensive project.

so not possible to evade the copyright laws on ut also quake 2 is on psp can you mod quake2?

It seems my mod idea is a total shambles then
if it isnt then i would need a good programmer which will be hard to recruit but mapping all the ut maps would probabally be another massive catch

Well there is a UT mod for Quake3 called "Unreal Arena" that uses sounds of UT and has some recreated maps and almost all UT weapons.

So whats the problem making a UT mod for Quake1 Kurok engine?

I mean - why should they sue him for making a mod, if he didn't get any profit from it?
Actaully if you make a UT mod for Quake1 Kurok engine, you would actually advertise UT, because people who haven't really played original UT99 may get more interested in this old game and actaully buy it!
