Post feature Report RSS The Mortewood Plaza - Launcher App Development

My launcher for the mod is a new idea i came up with because ive taken a liking to the steamworks SDK that some of the greatest mods have been given. It is not actually anything to do with steam just a little project im working with for Mortewood and other mods.

The basic idea of this launcher is based on the steam updating system in which the user of the application is supplied updates. I have taken this simple idea, applied it with the most user friendly code i could possibly make to create a launcher for Mortewood, and other mods that wish to use my SourceModLauncher which will be created based off the mortewood launcher.

So basic planned features are the ability to launch the mod from this, with other features like creating a desktop shortcut for steamlaunch of the mod, or the actual launcher itself.

It will automatically update easily by following simple text commands that any mod creator can follow and change for their mod.

It will also feature a new content box, in which the best maps, addons, weapons will be displayed with information and links on the application which can to be updated and changed easily.

Other simple features include the map listing tools, that work out the mod/gamemode and gives the user the ability to add a new map, or delete old ones. I understand that some people can do this with the click of a mouse, but for novice users this is a bit overwhelming to actually browse through all the folders to get the the mods map folders then have to cut and paste the map there, when with a simple open file menu like all normal applications the map can be added.

The program will look fancy and update all the mods and supply updates (with a choice) on both the launcher and the mod.

Simple stuff like mod information, videos, pics and older DLC can be displayed so the program is not forced to have the mod, the user can get this launcher, then use it to download the mod from there.

I understand that allot of people will find this useless, but im certian the select few will find use for it.

If you will find a use for it please comment, or leave a message, just so i know its worth me creating the launcher in the first place.

Also if you have any requested features i would love to hear them. All comments will be replied too.

Thanks.

(Also i need to update Mortewood information :P)

It's convenience is awesome though I couldn't. This seem to be an extra element that makes your mod even more unique. Though your application has given me some ideas though.

Its also not possible to repeatedly keep adding maps and updates to the website, maps are a bigger problem as some will not be made by me. Any other useful features? then i would like to know! :D

Thanks!

Nah i have a concept artist, but all his work is on paper, most of the ideas are mine and are in my head anyways so there is not real need for him anymore after hes finsihed the maps.

Thanks anyways!

No,no,no,no ALL this, and you are doing it alone?! This is far over my human (yes because not like you I'm human) comprehension. Do you have 4 hands and 2 PC? Do you work 25/24 at day?
P.S.
I don't understand at 100% the launcher so one question?
It's gonna be like: Launch Steam the Launch Mortewood launcher and then launch Mortewood? If is like that maybe will be a bit to messy/strong for the Pc In fact already Steam is using much memory.

Haha thanks, but no i just work fast but manage to ensure i keep everything at a standard.

As for the launcher you launch this and steam at the same time but this uses like almost no memory. It may be a bit messy for some people but it hides itself nicely away and you can change when it closes itself and so on. It will however offer allot of nice features such as updates, map listings and the ability to install maps and addons! :D

Dec, your head is like a pit of imagination. You just don't stop thinking do you? I'm sorry I just found this mod recently but it is so complete that I honestly think this is the only Half-Life 2 mod that can really be called a "complete modification". Congratulations :) Plus, from what I've seen, you're also one of the most community involved modders ever! That is also one big point for you and your awesome mod!

Also, I will definately use this launcher. It looks so simple and light. Keep up the good work!
