Post feature Report RSS A guide to quests in ACOK 2.0

A comprehensive guide to the new "story" quests in A Clash of Kings 1.2 and onwards - how they work, where you can pick them up and why you should ALWAYS read the quest text.

Posted by on

So you've read about an epic quest line that lets you visit Meereen? Awesome, right? I think so too!

But the forums, reddit, basically everywhere, is flooding with misinformation, ridiculous rumors and just plain wish-thinking. And I get PM'ed with questions I can't answer because of this. I can't answer them because they're often far-fetched, and more importantly, often based on some rumor, like Daenerys invading Westeros (she doesn't) or being able to join the Night's Watch (you can't).

Due to the limitations of the Warband engine, code, you get the deal, there are some things I simply cannot accomplish - either due to it being impossible, me not knowing how to do it, or because I simply cannot be bothered.

An example of something impossible would be dragons, and Daenerys is just no fun without dragons.

However, that does not mean I cannot craft some (at least I think so) pretty fun quests, that lets you interact with some of the fringe events of Westeros.

There is currently twenty quests in A Clash of Kings, and the following is a brief explanation of how they work, plus a list of where they can be obtained and what they're named:

What is basically true for all the quests is that you have to activate them before you can talk to the actual quest giver. An example could be the quest Terror in the Cairn. You get the quest from Goodman Tom, in the tavern in The Weeping Town, but the NPC that spawns Goodman Tom is named Septon Garibald (he's in the Weeping Tower lords hall), and you have to talk to him first. Once you talk to him, he'll explain where to find Goodman Tom, and once the dialogue ends, Goodman Tom will spawn in the tavern. This is why, and I cannot stress this enough, you HAVE to read the quest text. I will not respond to questions that could have been solved by reading the dialogue.

Anyhow, here's the full list of quests and where they can be activated.

The Horn and the Necklace - activator found in Ruins of Ghoyan Drohe.

The Blessed Ring - found in the septry close to Fairmarket.

The Bastard of Bolton - activator found in Winterfell.

Hear me Roar - activator found in King's Landing.

The Lost Caravan - activator found in Norvos.

Tomb of the Andals - activator found in Braavos.

Terror in the Cairn - activator found in Weeping Tower.

A New Beginning - Obtained from Osbert Clerk

The Tourney at Ninestars - Continuation of A New Beginning

Blood on the Snow - activator found in White Harbor (after you finish the quest Shadows in the Night).

Lost Knowledge - activator present in the Citadel in Oldtown.

Shadows in the Night - activator found in White Harbor.

The Prince and the Queen - activator found in Illyrios Manse.

Sticks and Stones - activator found in the Eyrie.

The Crowned Stag - obtained from Stannis Baratheon.

It's nice of you to post this...I didn't know where any of the ASOIAF-related quests actually were until now! Though admittedly I am a little disappointed you can't interact with the Night's Watch :p

I think Joining the Nights watch would "Sound Cool"
But essentially it will mean that your stuck on that wall, and your not allowed to go anywhere else. and have to wait a few thousand years for any action...

I've started the quest involving vargo hoat, the Harrenhal isn't owned by the lannisters anymore so does that mean that vargo hoat will never appear? Or does he appear someplace else?

If Kings Landing is taken by other factions than the Westerlands, will Tyrion still be in the tavern?

-seems like Kings Landing is taken a bit too easily by the enemy to me :/

Yes, he will be there, but since he gives you "part 1", I donĀ“t know about he is going to be next...

Did it with 90 westerlanders on normal difficulty levels, the company of the cat units are not that strong. Well worth the Valarian blade you get.

Hey everyone, can someone please tell me about sticks and stones quest? Is there a way to actually receive a reward for doing a quest? I did it twice and still only get negative renown :/
P.s. Cozur amazing mod. Thank you

I've finished the quest multiple times as well, for the sake of writing the wiki, and I can confirm that the actual 'reward' is -30 renown, -5 relationship with Lord Nestor Royce, 300 coins and 100 experience.
The only real reward that this quest gives you is that you'll be able to pad yourself on the back for having completed every quest in the modpack. But other than that, it's not worth completing. What can you say, Lysa Arryn is not the most dependable person to work for.

I probably missed it by not following the advice given here, but I can't find Aegon Bloodborn anywhere after starting the quest. I'm a vassal of Westerlands and High Fall isn't owned by the Riverlands. I've ran all through the rivers near the crossing, explored everywhere I could find in the actual castle, but I can't enter the lords hall due to war. Thanks for anyone who can help, can't find it anywhere on google!

To anyone else who got stuck or can't figure out The Blessed Ring - Aegon Bloodborn appears inside the King's hall of The Crossing, so you cannot advance through the quest if you are at War with the Riverlands. I also assume the Frey's have to control the Crossing for him to show up inside the hall.

My question, Cozur. You said there were two more Valyrian swords, in one of your recent tweets. I've played through all of these quests and the only one I've found is Blackfyre. Are the others carried by people, or am I not looking hard enough?

The fact that you cant obtain the quest unless the city is taken by the ''rightfull'' faction kinda ruins it...the quest should be acceptable everytime, not just when the particular faction owns it.

I've applied this quest information to the ACOK wiki and I'm going through the quests myself and updating the info:

I welcome anyone to lend a hand.

Yeah, I've added the Targaryen questline, as well as some other quests. The entire wiki is still very much 'work in progress', but we should be able to fill the pages fairly quickly if we all work on it. I'm AxeHeadSlam on wikia btw.

Valar Doehaeris seems to be bugged for me. I conquered the city. Didn't complete the quest. Then I conquered the whole kingdom. Didn't completed it either. He just keeps telling the same thing when I received the quest. Any tips or am I missing something?

No, actually, I'm a lord of the North and I think the city went to one of the Manderly. Thanks, I'll try to get it for me now.

Hi, so i just finished the Prince and Queen quest, in which you meet the Targaryens. However, if what i've read is correct, theres 2 more quests to get the targaryens into your story. What do i need to do afterwards to get these quests?
-Thanks

After finishing the quest, you have to leave the castle and then re enter it. Speak with Illyrio in Pentos castle again to get the second quest.

The Prince and Queen Quest is not updating, it keeps saying that I should go to volantis and get a ship, even after I talk to Danaerys.

You can't speak with Daenerys directly. Once in Meereen, you first have to speak with Illyrio's contact. It's the grey-haired woman in the town square. Only after said contact person tells you to go to Daenerys will you be able to tell Daenerys that Illyrio sent you.

If you're in need of quest help, visit the wiki we've been working on. It's on acok.wikia.com.

You seem to be in the same situation I'm in. I've tried to find an answer and so far it seems we're out of luck unless the Westerlands somehow retake King's Landing, which seems very unlikely since they're getting the crap beat out of them in my game.
