Every summer, gamers go through a debilitating drought. The well of releases worth playing slows to a trickle and many are left to do nothing more than drool over the titles planned for release next holiday season. It's during this time that many gamers come to ModDB to satiate their gaming appetites. They search high and low for something that will pique their interest.

While the MOTY Awards provide a wealth of choices among mods and indie games, they usually overlook gaming gems within our community released in the first half of the year. To combat this oversight, ModDB has launched the Summer of Mods & Indies event! Featuring exclusive content from all the major releases of the last 6 months, gamers are bound to find something to quench their thirst.

The Summer of Mods & Indies provides much needed exposure to mods and indie games in order to help them connect with their potential audiences. If you'd like to participate in this year's event, your too late... entries closed on July 15th. Instead sit back, thank the presenting sponsor US Air Force, and prepare to be bombarded with exclusive content from the best mods and indies from the first 6 months of the year.

Its time to beat the boredom and showcase the best mods and indie games from the first 6 months of 2009!

Posted by INtense! on Jul 15th, 2009

It's during these summer months (in the northern hemisphere, at least) that game publisher turn off the tap and the number of commercial releases slow down to a trickle. ModDB, on the other hand keeps churning out new gameplay experiences all year round. This summer we've decided to give help to those who want it. The result - The Summer of Mods & Indies event!

We'll be looking back over the past six months and featuring content from mods and games that worked with us to bring you quality content. Developers get the exposure they crave, and you discover games and mods that you may have missed out on. Good deal, right?

Here's how it works: starting today (July 15th), we'll be releasing a new feature article everyday focusing on a new mod or game. ModDB members can check out all the coverage on the front page or on the Summer of Mods & Indies profile. Be on the lookout for possible special offers or events happening each day!

Of course all of this hard work wouldn't be possible without our sponsor, the U.S. Air Force. Thanks to them for supporting the mod community and putting the spotlight on developers.

So remember to tune into Summer of Mods & Indies everyday for new content. Media barrage is GO!

my view is if a mod has been forgotten by the time Mod Of The year comes round. then it didn't do much of a job to grab interest or wasn't that good to be remembered.

still nice idea to do a summer event.

I'd say it is more the short attention spans of gamers + lack of any real PR initiatives from the mods/games themselves.

Maybe you are forgetting about all the spam news we get when moddb is nearing. People don't see the established releases because they are spammed with the PR of the one's trying to get popularity.

Nice coincident that this event starts on the same day the holidays begin in Hamburg in Germany, seeing as the rest of the world has had holidays for how long now? :D

Good job moddb! I love you!
