Concept Art Competition

Napoleon Bonaparte once said "Un bon croquis vaut mieux qu'un long discours," or "A good sketch is better than a long speech". We tend to agree with him, great ideas do come from great artwork and the creative minds of concept artists who dream up many of the characters and scenes we face in games today. And that is why we want you to show us why a picture is worth a thousand words in our Concept Art Competition.

Mod DB, The Art Institute Online and Alienware challenges you to bring forth your single most striking, awe inspiring and breathtaking original game art. Bring us your best work... the rendering you are most proud of... the one you show to anyone you want to consider you as a "game artist"... the one you would like the world to see.

The results are in!

That's right, after a few weeks of community voting and AiO judging the best entries (it wasn't easy believe me), the winners have been decided and are now on show. Big thanks to everyone who participated, we were simply overwhelmed by the amazing quality of the artwork, and plan on running another similar contest in the not too distant future.

It would be nice if they had said why the art school judges chose the painting they did. I dont think that they made a decision based on concept and quality but based mainly on quality and it discourages me for any future competitions.

To critique the "warlord". I dont believe he is a warlord. In what way does that image say to me warlord... it doesnt, it says warrior on battlefield getting stabbed to death. The quality is great on this image but the message is lacking.

I absolutely agree WiseGuys, the winning entry is a good painting, but that is all. They should entitled the contest as "painting contest"? instead, and not a game concept art contest . Consider me bitter but I should have copy a scene from movies like 300 and likes, maybe I could have a chance. Peace!!!

You guys are being a bit ridiculous. Conceptual artwork is about idea and design just as much as it is about mood and emotion, the latter in which I think you're completely discrediting. Not only this, but the contest rules specifically stated that the AI's choice would be based on quality of the piece, not concept.

Now go cry about it elsewhere.

Congratz to the winners. That is definetaly a nifty early christmas gift.
The Art of War was one of my favourites, cool to see it made it (not that i would'nt have been happy if mine made it :p).
The War on Water is cool too, but not really my taste.

It was a great fun contest.
Waiting for the next contest hehe.
