Mod of the Year 2010 Editors Choice - Best Multiplayer Mod

2010 was a great year for multiplayer focused mod players, with many new exciting projects and new mp expansions it was a good set of releases. To be nominated for an award in Best Multiplayer Mod projects need to have been updated significantly during 2010 and be multiplayer focused. Here are the Editors of ModDB's and our judges top selection of 2010.

Eastern FrontEastern Front
is a mod for Company of Heroes. Following the ethos of mimicking a Relic Entertainment expansion pack, Eastern Front has succeeded in adding a full Soviet faction packed with unique and exciting units to the existing armies - a feat never before achieved in the Company of Heroes world.

Forgotten Hope 2Forgotten Hope 2
is a mod for Battlefield 2. It aims to portrait World War II in a way no other multi-player first person shooter have done before, with a focus on historical accuracy and tactical gameplay. You can play as represent many different countries as a soldier and utilize an extensive arsenal of weapons and vehicles that accurately portrait the assets available in the real battles.

GraviNULLGraviNULL
the player will be put in a Zero Gravity situation with no means to move around besides using a modified gravity gun with a "grapple" function. This function can attach to the numerous mines floating about the map and fling the player around, the player must kill the enemies by punting the mines at enemies.

Firearms: SourceFirearms: Source
is a team based first person shooter. Firearms: Source brings the best aspects of Firearms to the Source engine, and then takes them a step further. You'll see a host of familiar weapons and maps, but you'll find the streamlined game play to be faster, focusing on aggressive, skilled play. From nearly the moment you spawn you can expect to be engaged in furious action.

Trouble in Terrorist TownTrouble in Terrorist Town
is a Fretta-compatible gamemode for (and included in) Garry's Mod 10. It's about a group of Terrorists who have traitors among them, out to kill everyone who is not a traitor. A small number of players (typically 25%) is selected as Traitors, who have to kill all the Innocent players (ie. the rest). Those innocents know there are people out to get them, and they're in the majority, but they do not know who the traitors are.

PR has already won this category before, it's fair of the editors to focus on other mods regardless of their actual MP popularity.

Well done to those in the list above. 1 have played 4 of them and think its strange theres no mention of Project Reality. The games above were good and kept me entertained for an hour or so. PR has had me entertained for about 5 years now and still going.

PR won the 2008 MOTY for best Multi mod. The whole point of the Editor's choice is to sort of sift out the already known great mods (which are sure to be reflected in the Player's Choice portion), and expose other quality mods. That's why Editor's Choice exists because it sort of balances out the "popularity contest" in terms of people voting.

Uh. GraviNULL is the only "new" game on this list. I can't see why the others even exist. I realise that this will probably give me a gazillion thumbs-down, but seriously? The difference between these shooters are nuances at best, and the gaming world is already extremely over-saturated with such standard wargames. I don't have anything against war games in particular; they are fun and all, but there are just too damn many. What do these games incorporate of gaming-mechanichs that the world hasn't seen before?

Oh, well. Sorry for rambling.
Now, feel free to bury me in minuses! :D

*edit: Sorry, The Gmod-thingy seems a bit original as well.

Well editor's choice is just one man preference (if i'm right) while players choice is everyone, so players choice should mean more.

That's strange. Because only one server is ever full in FH2. That's the WaW tournament server, and it's only up on saturdays, and it's only at maximum for a couple hours before everyone quits. And only two servers have any people in them:
Hslan, also known as "that crappy server with retarded admins who are almost never online and a bunch of prepubers who teamkill you for planes" and 762 also known as "the only server where enjoyment is possible in FH(and i emphasize the POSSIBLE)".
Surprised it's up here.

And why the **** isn't PR up here? It's a much more quality package and the devs don't try to nail anybody with suggestions to a burning cross. And it's more balanced.

Wulfburk12 Dec 21 2010, 11:38pm replied:

WTH, Every day i go on FH2 there are ALWAYS two servers FULL = Hslan and 762 Ranked, and Hslan admins are cool, if you have problem with them, ITS YOUR FAULT, and WaW and FHT tournaments held battles every week, and they are awesome, Online play at Forgotten Hope 2 is the best WW2 FPS online play.

and has Henley pointed out, PR already won tons of awards here at Moddb, so give others a chance, but a few more others

Yeah, i used to think the same thing. Then one of them banned me because a guy who TKed me for a plane told them i did the same to him the round before where there were no admins.

Also, it's the best multiplayer mod award. Not the best multiplayer mod that hasn't had a chance yet award. If the "give the mod a chance" thing is true, then they'll be awarding the best multiplayer mod award to "phil's multihack" in a couple of years.
You know, just to give everybody a chance.

Compared to the Blitzkrieg mod Eastern Front is an ant, it only adds one faction that gets pwned by all the others and doesnt change the gameplay at all. Blitz makes damage realistic, adds tons of new units, remade the entire tech trees and made them much bigger as well. How the hell did this piece of crap win?

It takes very little time to modify and tweak a few values. We create all our 'crap' from scratch, model, animate, code... we also have to deal with the bugs that come along with this. Modifying existing factions and game fucntions is **** easy... adding and modifying entire new factions and functions is much more difficult.
