Welcome to the 7th Annual Mod of the Year Awards - the premiere event that celebrates the best creations within the modding and indie gaming scene. Developers have poured their blood, sweat and tears into creating new gameplay experiences that truly "change the game". Now its time for the gamers to voice
their opinions and select their top picks of the year.
**Presenting the 2008 Winners**
From now until Feb 28th, the MOTY will present to you the cream of the crop for 2008 as voted by the public. The top mods and games will win the honors of being placed alongside other projects that have gone on to become commercial successes and cement their place in ModDB's hall of fame. And to the winner goes the spoils; ModDB has teamed up with a whole lineup of sponsors that have provided prizes ranging from software to servers to commercial engines. Everything to help budding developers excel at their craft.
MOTY 2008 is in the books.

Well, another Mod of the Year event is done and dusted. It's been the biggest (and most work-intensive) one so far in ModDB's history and hopefully we can keep adding to it in some way every year. This year's event spanned over a week and a half gradually revealing the awards. What many don't know is that MOTY 2008 was the culmination of months of planning with about 2 and half weeks of sleepless nights spent gathering footage, video editing, recording voiceovers, writing news posts on top of all our other regular duties. Special thanks goes out to the following people, without whom this year's MOTY wouldn't be possible:
- Dave Traeger AKA Henley: Dave is the man responsible for all of the official video content on ModDB. He did an awesome job on this year's video showcase for MOTY and put up with all of my requests for changes and revisions. Producing video content always will come right down to the wire when you have to chase down footage from mod teams, but Dave demonstrated his ability to perform under tight deadlines.
- Scott Reismanis AKA INtense!: Scott is the owner and business guy behind ModDB. Even though you don't hear from him too much on the site, it's because of his hard work that we're able to offer amazing prizes for MOTY. Coordinating with all the sponsors and prize winners is not an easy task by any means. Scott is also responsible for implementing the voting systems for player's choice and helped post a couple of the awards when I was too ill to work. Thanks Scott.
- Mike Hillard AKA CornetTheory: Mike is the guy behind all of the voicework for this year's videos for MOTY. Huge thanks to him for staying up late with us to record his lines and for the quick responses to any changes or revisions we needed. Mike does a lot of voicework for many mods on ModDB, most notably Black Mesa. Check out his voice samples here.
- Sebastian Aav: The composer of the intro song that plays at the beginning of all the MOTY videos. You can listen to the full song here. Check out Sebastian's site if your looking for a composer for your project.
To all the sponsors that want to support the modders and indie developers we thank you for your participation.
Thanks to the winners for making such great mods that we can all enjoy. Finally, thanks to all the gamers and developers out there that have helped ModDB grow and MOTY become an anticipated event every year for thousands of people. These awards are meant to celebrate the modding scene as a whole and put it front of more people who aren't aware of its existence. Regardless of any awards or prizes, all mod teams should strive to do what they're doing not to win a contest, but because they share a passion to develop and change the game.

Ryan Anderson AKA Stenchy: The scribe behind the words of ModDB, eloquently taking us upon finely worded journeys into the deepest and darkest realms of modding. Stenchy is the man who gets the job done, keeps the shizzle together, and cracks the whip when Henley starts lagging behind on them sexy videos! Together, both he and Dave sprinkle the awesome that is... ModDB.
