Mod of the Year 2007

Welcome to Mod DB and the 6th Annual Mod of the Year Awards - the definative event that showcases the best mods and indie games in the world and recognizes the teams behind them. The MOTY is a tribute to the creativity, dedication & hard work independent developers put into creating unique gaming experiences that enable us to "play something different".

Over the coming months we will showcase to you the best mods and games in the industry. You vote for those you believe are worthy of recognition. At the top of this program sits the ultimate prize, the mod of the year award won previously by Natural Selection, Red Orchestra, PoE2 and Garry's Mod. Thanks to our sponsors, this year we have a few surprizes up our sleaves not to mention a slew of prizes for the participating teams.

From Dec 1st to Jan 1st, industry professionals, developers, gamers and the general public cast their votes to decide which mods define the cutting edge of interactive entertainment and which mod teams attain gaming celebrity.

Follow the links to join us on an unforgettable journey as we present the 2007 Mod of the Year.

Event Coverage

As always, this year's contest started by rounding out the top 100 through community nominations. Public voting was then held to list to the top five games/mods in each of three categories - indie games, unreleased and released mods. After analyzing and gathering data based on the votes, we are finally ready to present the results. ModDB has approached this year's winners, in advance, in hopes of securing exclusive content for you, the viewer. We've come back with a few goodies that I hope you guys will like. It was a very close race to the number one spot this year. Regardless, every one of the winners showcased in this feature deserve the attention. Without the effort, enthusiasm and dedication behind these projects, 2007 would have been a tough year to try and play something different.

When you're done watching the video showcase below, be sure to check out the write-ups of all the winners in the following pages for full access to all the related media. Exclusive content will be marked as such so you guys will know what to check out first. You can also find the top mods and games on AMD's site. Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to all those who took part in the 2007 Mod of the Year Awards.

compared to NS. tremulous game-play is nothing, too linear. It doesn't require too many tactics. Hmm maybe that is why it is popular.

yep, agreed 100%, the voice was very awkward with the seriousness of the movie, it sounded more light like it could go with a beer commercial or something :P

Narration was quite atrocious - "most favourite" :/ ? And did we need the repeated and overlong number splash screens - "banau banau baubau" :/ ?

And ZP really doesn't deserve its place here - one: its released, two: its crap (or at the moment it is).

This site provides a superb service, but better writing and narration would have saved this video from irritating mediocrity.

Production was a little rushed, I will admit. I was the only one putting this together and wanted to give mod teams a chance to get some new content submitted which put it right down to the wire. Next year will be a much more organized affair since I will be able overseeing the whole event from beginning to end.

I wasn't aware of the time constraints, and, as I said, this is a great site :) . I probably sounded pretty damn grouchy and unreasonable :(

Not at all, the critiques are appreciated. Complaints that I have surveyed are all pretty much the same and would have been taken care of if we had the time. Even watching the video myself, I twinge at a few glaring glitches here and there.

Dudes! Its February. It would be nice if you guys at least acknowledge the fact that your going to be a little late for the editor choice picks. Its not really fair to the modders or the rest of the community to have us all guessing with no word on whats going on.

Hey, that would be fine, as long as they told us they were going to be a little late rather then this frustrating silence.

Are you a member of a successful Mod Team? Are you going to be at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco this year? If you answered yes to both of these questions then Noesis Interactive wants to meet with you! Noesis Interactive works with industry giants such as Valve, IGN, Softimage, and Autodesk to expand knowledge regarding game modding and development through easy to follow video modules. We’re interested in speaking with modders and developers about their roles and experiences in order to lend insight to the rest of the Mod community. This is a great opportunity to promote both your Mod and your team. So, if you’re going to be at GDC and are interested in being involved, please respond to this message or email benm@noesisinteractive.com for more details. We hope to see you there!

Zombie Panic is NOT a Mod. It's a bunch of whiny little idiots who REFUSED to release their crappy mod unless they won. I will NEVER even so much as look at Zombie Panic, and I suggest everyone else do the same.
