Mod of the Year 2007

80,000 votes. 4,000 mods. Only 10 winners.

Mod DB and the 5th Annual Mod of the Year Awards is the definitive event that showcases the best mods in the world and recognizes the mod teams behind them. The “MOTY” is a tribute to the creativity, dedication & hard work independent developers put into creating unique gaming experiences that enable us to "Play Something Different".

Mod DB brings you the best mods in the industry. You decide which ones are worthy of recognition. At the top of this program sits the ultimate prize... the Mod of the Year Award! Thanks to our sponsors, this year we have greatly enhanced the program with video content, interactive features and top shelf prizes.

From Nov 15th to Jan 1st, industry professionals, developers, gamers and the general public cast their votes to decide which mods define the cutting edge of interactive entertainment & which mod teams attain gaming celebrity.

For those new to mods, a modification is a variation of an original game that can be freely downloaded. These variations can be minor or epic in scope. In brief:

  • Mods unlock and expand the incredible power of games
  • Mod making is an art form that empowers creative expression

Results Discussion

It is an interesting lineup the TOP 100 this year. We've got some of the old with Natural Section, ESF and Sven all making the cut for the 4th year running, and we've got some of the new with World of Padman, Empires, Iron Grip and many more making it. Once again Half-Life mods have stolen the show, HOWEVER, this year the top few mods from over 21 games have all made it and are ALL in with a chance.

2006 Mod of the Year Awards

Next Step

It is time for YOU to pick your TOP 3 from this list and it isn't going to be easy believe me! It took me over an hour to scour these mods and choose my absolute favorites. And now that the nomination process is complete, it is ultimately your vote NOW which decides the mod that wins the ultimate prize... THE MOD OF THE YEAR. The winner will be joining some elusive company with Garrys Mod, Red Orchestra & Natural Selection (all past winners) becoming hugely successful commercial projects.

Good luck to all those that made the list, and for the mod teams that missed out - keep up the hard work, there is always 2007!

Well Done to every team who is even making a mod.

Its a lot of hard work and effort across the teams.

Its a great honor for my own mod to make the top 100 especially with so many other High caliber teams out there.

Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday to all.

No matter what genre, what mod wins the main thing is being involved and carrying your aspirations wishes and dreams through.
It takes a lot of dedication, coffee and lack of sleep to pull a mod off as well as heaps of teamwork.
Good luck to all and whatever mod wins, we are all winners for trying!

Yeah half life 2 mods have kind of disappointed me so far. Cant wait for so many of them though that of course will not fail to impress. Black Mesa, Insurgency, Sven Coop etc. Those are the mods that make hl2 worth every penny.
