How is Dystopia overrated? Besides, if it wins, it means that the people like it as much as...well, those who "overrate" it, doesn't it?

Dystopia is highly overrated, it's like Natural Selection and Counter-Strike... but some people really like those way too much to notice the overrating...

Unfortunately, the better mods go untalked about mostly, such as the Half-Life 1 mod Paranoia.

what about standalone games? Can they win a 'mod' award?

Definetly, but Dystopia isn't bad imho..

you can not stop people ovverrate mods. it's called cash-cow principle. majority of people are of mediocre intelligence and prefer simple click-and-shoot games as they do not require much thinking. that rule of thumb worked back then and does still today. hence you can only try to vote for the gems among mods but you can't make them win.

@Betelgeuze: you should be able to vote for standalone games as i see the vote button also in my project and that one is standalone.

You cannot judge a compeition simply by what has been done. There are a lot of varying mods out there that all stand a good chance, but it comes down to the choice of the original and what YOU, as Intense said, want to vote for. We know that some mods will be there simply because they have an enormous community backing it, such as GarrysMod, and others will be there because a large group of people actually want to see it.

Either way, when it comes down to it, I'm sure that the winners will be a combination of GOOD mods and then POPULAR mods. Also, sport some Black Mesa: Source Love Folks! < Moddb.com >

Isn't it somewhat lame to pimp your mod in the comments ? I mean if everyone would do it, the comments would be flooded by advertisment comments instead of "real" comments.

I get a "Direct Link Voting is Disallowed" message. It tells me to vote via the mod profile, but if I do so, I still get the same error.

I hope that at least some people think that the Doom 3 Coop Mod Last Man Standing Coop is worthy of the title of mod of the year :) If nothing else, I hope that people are enjoying the mod and having a blast fighting off the demon hordes in LMS Mod and/or playing SP coop and/or ROE Coop. There should be a "quality choice" mod of the year which gets a lot of votes from people who don't vote for many mods at all...

It WOULD be nice to see a lesser-known mod win something, but the unfortunate reality is that the popular, or 'over-hyped' if you will, mods will get the votes. Not that they don't deserve the votes though.
