Mod of the Year

2005 Mod of the Year Results ARE IN!

Each year, beginning around November / December the Mod DB Mod of the Year awards are kicked off. For two months voting is open to everyone, and every mod is eligible (released or not) with the ultimate goal being the unearthing of this years best mod, as decided by you.

During this time, all mod profiles show a big "vote now" button. Members & guests recognise the mods they like by simply pressing the button (note. guests are limited to one vote). After 2 months of voting the competition is locked down and results tallied. The winning mods will be notified and shortly hereafter the results will be shared.

What are the winning categories?

  • Top 15 Mods
  • Top 5 Upcoming Mods
  • Top Mod by Genre
(eg. action, adventure, driving, puzzle, role-playing, simulation, sports, strategy)
  • Editors choice awards
(eg. best old skool mod, reinvention, story, graphics)

but just because you don't like something, doesn't make it bad!

all the more reason to vote, to make sure the mods *YOU* like have a good chance

How is Dystopia overrated? Besides, if it wins, it means that the people like it as much as...well, those who "overrate" it, doesn't it?

Dystopia is highly overrated, it's like Natural Selection and Counter-Strike... but some people really like those way too much to notice the overrating...

Unfortunately, the better mods go untalked about mostly, such as the Half-Life 1 mod Paranoia.

you can not stop people ovverrate mods. it's called cash-cow principle. majority of people are of mediocre intelligence and prefer simple click-and-shoot games as they do not require much thinking. that rule of thumb worked back then and does still today. hence you can only try to vote for the gems among mods but you can't make them win.

@Betelgeuze: you should be able to vote for standalone games as i see the vote button also in my project and that one is standalone.

You cannot judge a compeition simply by what has been done. There are a lot of varying mods out there that all stand a good chance, but it comes down to the choice of the original and what YOU, as Intense said, want to vote for. We know that some mods will be there simply because they have an enormous community backing it, such as GarrysMod, and others will be there because a large group of people actually want to see it.

Either way, when it comes down to it, I'm sure that the winners will be a combination of GOOD mods and then POPULAR mods. Also, sport some Black Mesa: Source Love Folks! < Moddb.com >

Isn't it somewhat lame to pimp your mod in the comments ? I mean if everyone would do it, the comments would be flooded by advertisment comments instead of "real" comments.

Apart from that I really like the D.E.A.D. mod

I hope that at least some people think that the Doom 3 Coop Mod Last Man Standing Coop is worthy of the title of mod of the year :) If nothing else, I hope that people are enjoying the mod and having a blast fighting off the demon hordes in LMS Mod and/or playing SP coop and/or ROE Coop. More information about the mod can be found here:

Take care.
