Xash3D is a custom Gold Source build from a scratch. Xash3D overcomes obsolete Gold Source engine's limits and provides for you a new quality of gaming experience and modmaking capabilities, for example: higher limits for bsp-models, studiomodels scaling, realistic values of lighting on server side, entity patch technology support, support of additional map types, support of precaching "on the fly", support for using real HD-textures (up to 4096 x 4096 px) for maps, models, sprites and decals in any played mod and many other features...
It's not perfect (yet), but it's way better than choosing between OpenGL (framerate tank and sound stuttering on every dynamic light) and Software (genuinely looks like 100% ****).
The developer appears to be very active and has rebuilt GoldSrc to be bigger and better, utilizing the processing power you see on modern computers versus the Windows 95's and 98's.
Try it out, and if you don't like it in its current state, just verify your cache, no harm done.
The good old Goldsrc Engine was easy to mod and brought a lot of fun. My all time favorite engine to mod for. You put years of work into this ressurection and the results are just amazing. I appreciate all the hard work and i am very pleased with this engine. I feel like back in 1998. The additional features are great and XashXT offers many very interessting entities and possibilities. I am looking forward to the future progress of this project. Thank you very much for this!
