The Lightweight Java Game Library (LWJGL) is a solution aimed directly at professional and amateur Java programmers alike to enable commercial quality games to be written in Java. LWJGL provides developers access to high performance crossplatform libraries such as OpenGL and OpenAL (Open Audio Library) allowing for state of the art 3D games and 3D sound. Additionally LWJGL provides access to controllers such as gamepads, steering wheel and joysticks. All in a simple and straightforward API.

The OpenGLBook.com website offers a nice overview of OpenGL (starting from version 3.3/4). However as with many OpenGL sources the code is in C/C++. Here are the same examples, using LWJGL.

These "tutorial" articles have 2 purposes:

  • Focus attention to the solid tutorials from OpenGLBook.com
  • Provide a single page for the Moddb community to get more information about LWJGL/OpenGL and have the correct source code to learn from.
  • As the original code was in C/C++ using extensions like freeglut I have taken the liberty of changing some function definitions so it would properly work with LWJGL.
  • The code is undocumented because in general it is the same as the one explained on the website.
