Previously referred to as the 'Doom 3 Engine', Tech 4 is id Software's current licensing platform. Powering games such as Doom 3, Quake 4 and Enemy Territory Quake Wars, Tech 4 revolutionized the use of realtime dynamic lighting as well as other technologies.

About Doom III with 1 comment by Grimori on Jun 15th, 2015

A content pack of Star Wars themed levels designed for 8 to 32 players.
Point Capture is the emphasis, with deathmatch options.

Pics of Hoth level's terrain shown, with temporary textures for skybox

Levels include:
- Hoth
- Cloud City/Bacta Platforms
- Mos Eisley
- Tatooine
- Imperial Space Station/Under Construction Star Destroyer
- Coruscant/Wookie Planet
- Death Star Research Facility
- Remnants of Clone Manufacturer
- Republic Colony

This is a version of a Star Wars project that was being built in Unity 3D for web browsers.

A package of models is also in the works.

textures are still being updated, these screens are the levels using default Doom 3 stuff, and not the full Star Wars themed textures. The textures in Unity 3D are better so far, and the normal maps have to be rebuilt for Doom 3 vdersion of the levels. The next texture pack with be to bring visuals closer to that of recent shooters, since to get performance out of Doom 3 things have to look something like Battlefront 2. An update with other textures will follow. After that it will be the move of things to a version of Quake Wars. The versions for Unreal 2.5 that I built will be moved to Unreal Engine 3 with the updated textures.

Bot support via modified SAbot will be a feature after the level pack release. Some levels are now the size of the level with a train in Battlefield 4(with 32 players in mind)

I’m interested in something NewHorizon posted about a month ago on a modDB “The Dark Mod” page:

1. This isn't FarCry2.
2. FC2 is a completely different type of engine. It loads smaller chunks of levels and then streams in the rest as you go. The doom 3 engine loads THE ENTIRE level. We didn't design the engine.

Do you know if this was changed in the EnemyTerritory: QuakeWars edition of the engine? – is that what MegaTexture technology is?
...I’m interested in “1 huge level with no loading” games.
Is there a name for this little-by-little level loading technique, or some technical expression that I can run a search by?

If Tech 4 goes open source, does that include all its modifications – Prey Q4, ET:QW.. ?

All of John Carmack's engines go open source eventually... Id tech 1, 2, and 3. Eventually 4 and even 5 will be open source. It's a tradition John Carmack is passionate about.
