Post news Report RSS Dev Log #10 - Return

I'm back and have some great news and some good updates. :)

Hello There,

My name is Matt and I am the lead developer for this project. For those of you who do not know, Game Of Engines is a game development toolkit that allows users to create their own games with a few clicks of their mouse. This article will be on my magnificent return, twitter, sharing and the toolkit.

1. Not you again!
Oh yes, it's me again. I have spent the past month doing exams and working for other companies but I am finally back and ready to get on with this project.

2. How's the Toolkit?
The toolkit is just fine thanks for asking. I have been updating it and it is almost ready for Version 1.3. There will be a news update on the toolkit soon but I can tell you right now that it will have a publication wizard, project creation wizard, sprite creation wizard, other wizards, faster map editing, new hierarchy system and loads more. For an inside look at how development on the toolkit is going then please visit our twitter page.

2a. What's a Publication Wizard?
This is a special tool that helps you to publish your games and share them with the world. Currently only Open Source Publication is available but more options are to be added very soon.

3. Twitter and Other Stuff
Game Of Engines is becoming more usable each and every day but to continue this development we need support from you guys. You can help to support us by telling your friends about this project or simply sharing the page on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Ect. We have a new reward scheming coming soon so be sure to keep an eye out for it as you will be able to win prizes by simply clicking the FOLLOW button on our Twitter page.
*Remember - If you have a friend that would be interested in developing their own game then please send them this way.

4. So, What's This About Pirates?
By visiting EvilWaters.co.uk, you will be able to read into the companies backstory. Our first game was a little something called Pirate Legacy and we are currently porting this game to our Engine so we can add some cool things that *cough* Game Maker *cough* does not. Let's move on:

5. More Info On Reward Scheme
A lot of you are probably wondering where you can download the Toolkit - You cant... yet. This project is still in Alpha (if you can believe) and as such if you would like access to it then we will be more than happy to give it to you assuming that you help us by spreading the word. The reward scheme is something we are working on that will allow the community to gain access to the Toolkit by simply doing things like: Following us on Twitter, Sharing the page and even just leaving a comment. For more information on the Reward Scheme, please await ma' next post.

6. The Engine?
Ah yes. I almost forgot about the engine - I honestly have done jack s*** with the engine and this is because of a server and funding problem that I will talk about in the next Dev Log. For now I have added Physics to the engine but this will have to do due to our problem.

6a. Did You Say SERVER Issue?
Yes. We upkeep the project via our own private server and this has since been closed down due to funding problems. However, right before we shut it down, I was working on adding Online Muliplayer to the toolkit via our servers - The Online feature would allow you to hire out a small pocket of our server for your game to run and as a result - You could create an online game for loads of people to join. Unfortunately, no money = no server xD so y'all will have to wait.

7. Screenshots?
Why yes. I have a few older screenshots but none more recent than these:

8. Thanks
Once again, Thank you all for reading and if you like the project then please remember to share this with your friends or via any social networking sites. In addition, keep an eye out for the reward scheme as it is your chance to get a copy of the Toolkit.

9. Oh Wait...
Before I close this article, I am looking for some help with the project - I am in search of a C++ Developer familiar with either Qt or Visual Studio that can help me with some minor Toolkit things such as the Lua Editor. Unfortunately, I do not have the funding to pay anybody at the moment but if you would be interested in owning a part of this game engine and level editor then please contact me via Moddb / Indiedb.

Thanks For Reading,
Matt
